kid related V-day confession
We got an email from school yesterday with "reminders". One of them was- "We do not celebrate Valentine's Day in any way - please do not send candy/cards etc. to school."
I was thrilled. I don't have time to do anything for Valentines nor do I want to do anything. I also laughed a little because I can only imagine how many questions from the 1st year parents about this the director must have gotten to have to send that out.

LOL, we didn't get anything about V-day. Abby goes to preschool at a temple, so I know they don't do anything for V-day. Im sorta glad too. I
E goes to a jewish preschool, right? Yeah, Valentine's Day is not celebrated in jewish schools.
There are plenty of opportunities in my daughters school to have fun with friends and get a special treat. It doesn't have to happen on a holiday that was created by a pope and named after a saint, just because Hallmark has exploited it.
I didn't mean for that to come accross snarky, but, I'm too tired this morning to try to re-write it, lol! I just mean that we don't celebrate it and I'm OK with that and don't feel as if my daughter is missing out on anything.

I'm jealous!
agreed
me too, I didnt do it when they were little and thats not the norm in "real" school now.
Seriously. I love Pinterest, but the cute DIY ideas will make us all batty. Next year we'll be making angora heart shaped tea cozies with yarn cultivated from our own back yard rabbits. LOL.
LOL the world has gone mad!
I agree, too... and I just got a Valentine's Day card mailed to my office - from Alexis's daycare - with the cutest picture and poem inside and itmade my day. I'm glad they celebrate! It doesn't take much for me to send it 12 cards and lollipops and bring some heart-shaped cookies.
I'm not even religious but I'm with you. My non-Jewish friends were like appalled at no Halloween and I was like- well, they have Purim. It's just not in Oct. So, he gets to wear his costume, walk in a cute parade, have a carnival, etc- it just happens to be in March.
I don't feel like E is missing out on anything not celebrating Valentine's Day. There is plenty of cuteness to go around all year that doesn't involve holidays. But I'm not into any holidays or obligation of holiday anything. Bah-humbug. I don't want to feel like I have to buy cards, go searching for appropriate "treats", etc. This was my confession- that I'm glad. If you enjoy V-day, grow your alpaca hair and make heart shaped alpaca hair covered hearts and a chocolate volcano til your hearts content. I don't judge. I may even steal one of your chocolates. Or five. I just don't need another trip to the drugstore.
LOLOL Rya isnt a fan of his NBA Valentines now and wants Green Latern. Yeah no.
Please. I called my jewiest friend since I was raised by wolves to ask her if he can wear ANY costume for Purim or if it had to be holiday/story related. Because I vaguely remember in hebrew school wearing a Queen Esther costume for this holiday. But I was a super late edition to religious school since I chose to go on my own without my parents having any involvement. My friend said any costume is appropriate so I'm just thrilled he gets another use out of his Muno costume and no trips to any store to try to find something else.
Ever since going back to work and only having 2 days to get anything done, I'm very picky with my time and what I'm willing to do.
I am with you. To each their own. If you have the time, energy and passion to make your own crafty stuff, that's awesome. I love doing stuff like this for Halloween and Christmas/Solstice time. By V-day, my interest is totally tapped out. So no angora or alpaca hair hearts for me. Bottom line do what you love. Don't feel pressured into doing things because other people are.
Because at Catholic school they don't celebrate our holidays so why would a Jewish school celebrate a holiday that's about a Saint? That's like saying we should just give our kids Santa because it's fun and it's not really about celebrating the birth of Christ. Fun is what you make it. If you make Tuesdays fun, they're fun. To me your mentality is like if you have a diick for a spouse all year, but you make sure you guys make a big deal out of Valentines Day just because it's Valentines Day. Every day should be Valentines Day.
I'm pretty neutral on this.
Honestly, I'd be much more excited about it if I were allowed to bake cookies or send lollipops or another kind of treat - that's easy. But, no edible gifts are allowed, and as one of the most uncreative people on the planet, I'm now subjected to "work". hate to look at it that way but that's how it is for me.

its typical for kids who dont read. This way they can go around and drop a card in each kids basket instead of the teacher having 15 kids yelling "who's is this! Who's is this" at the teacher for 45 minutes.
I would agree with you if it was National Love day, but it's Saint Valentine's Day. It's a Catholic observation-- not even a generic Christian observation.
You're so smart. Never thought of that!
No! the first time they told me that I was like WTF and then another mom explained. Can you imagine if you were a teacher who had to deal with that.
Ah thanks! I would not have known!
exactly what Bella's teachers told me
