So, I got a new job that starts in a few weeks and it's on the other side of the country. I don't have any furniture that's worth spending a fortune on movers or a u-haul to move (I'm currently unemployed) so my philosophy is: pack my car, my dad will ship me what doesn't cost a ton to ship, and ditch the rest. Simple, yes? Hells no.
There are several things that I can't figure out what to do with. My TV, microwave, and vacuum cleaner are examples. All these would fit in my car, but would be at the expense of not fitting a lot of smaller items. Shipping would probably be too expensive because these are heavy things. Replacing them would not be prohibitively expensive, but not cheap either, and I'm going to have a lot of start-up costs (deposit on an apartment, basic supplies, etc). I feel a little anxious about driving with expensive stuff because I'm going to have to keep it in my car while I look for an apartment in my new city.
I also have a lot of completely random crap, such as reams of printer paper, candles, five boxes of cold medicine purchased at Sam's Club to last me the year, and 40 different bottles of nail polish. All things I use, but I look at it and I think of the size of my car and I realize these things are not 100% necessary. But it seems like such a waste of money, even if I donate them.
RAWR. On the upside, the Tears for Fears station on Pandora is spectacular.
Re: Vent re: moving
Ship the cold medine with some other lightweight things. Squeeze the nail polish in there somewhere.
Are you moving somewhere warm? Somewhere fun?
I'm going to be working for the feds - I knew when I applied that they wouldn't offer assistance.
Moving to CA - definitely warmer!
Still haven't decided. I look at them and my heart breaks at the thought of being without them. They greet me with squeaks every morning and I think that will be just what I need when I go to a strange city where I don't know anyone Then an ambulance drives by and they freak out and I worry about them having a heart attack during the trip. The oldest already pulls her hair out because of stress (according to the vet). This is going to be the hardest decision of this move, I think.
