Our tech team has launched updates to The Nest today. As a result of these updates, members of the Nest Community will need to change their password in order to continue participating in the community. In addition, The Nest community member's avatars will be replaced with generic default avatars. If you wish to revert to your original avatar, you will need to re-upload it via The Nest.

Good advice all around. I'd throw in about the jeans to just be careful you don't get them too HIGH, either. High waisted jeans = no no no. Darker washes are better, and please stay away from the ripped up, uber whiskered, etc., varieties.
In re: the shirts, ditto on the fit (depending on your build, you might need a slim fit - I know my ex did, and he was athletic), but I'm not a huge fan of tucked in shirts (unless it's with a suit, or dress pants). I'm 31, though, so maybe it's an age thing.

Greed, american eagle makes great jeans. I've had pairs that, if I hadn't porked up, would still be in great shape...I just can't wear them now
This! The shopper is the best idea so far. She/he will be able to see you and put you in a few nice things. You can find budget/discount items in the same style after you have a few good pieces and an idea of what looks best on you.
My H did this years ago and said it was the best thing he ever did. I absolutely love the way he dresses now and he got all his great ideas from the Nordstrom shopper.
