Happy post V's days! I made dinner last night and today I'm planning to getting out to Target to get some clearance candy but DH will only allow me to get 1 bag. 1 BAG!!! How will I chose????
I broke my crock pot. I was cleaning it an fit slipped and fell in the sink. I thought I had only chipped the top but upon further inspection there was a hair line crack all the way down. It was only 2 years old and my bigger pot too.
Re: Wacky Wednesday Randoms
It throws me off now that it's lighter in the morning. I always think I'm late and have to glance at my watch when I leave the house to make sure I'm not an hour behind schedule!
The light is helping me not fall back asleep after getting home from the bus stop.
Has anyone tried or know someone that has Soda Stream. It has peaked my Dad's interest and I thought I would ask around. I haven't seen many reviews.
Bummer on the crockpot Deeder. :-( Hopefully you can find a cheap replacement.
I love more light. LOVE. It was depressing there for awhile when I wouldn't see the sun I days I worked. Now it's kind of light coming to work and light out for an hour when I get home.
That is what I would like - a 6qt with a warm setting. I only have a 4qt and it is a bit too small for cooking for 3.
We bought a Soda Stream around Christmas. We use it all the time to carbonate water. It works well and doesn't need to be plugged in so you can tuck it anywhere. We have only used a flavor syrup once. It was the orange soda flavor, which was pretty good, not overly sweet. Sometimes I will have a glass of half orange juice half sparkling water.
I think if your dad is looking to replace Diet Coke or a specific soda that he likes, it might not be the exact taste he is looking for. But if he is looking to cut down on waste/energy use and wants a convenient soda/sparkling beverage alternative, Soda Stream might be great for him! We have been very happy with it so far.
G'morning. How is everyone?
I'm not so happy to be back at work this morning. I asked B if I could quit today.. he said no. I wouldn't have done it had he said yes anyway. I will suffer through.
I love that it's lighter earlier too. We spring forward next month right?
I have a question. I know I don't talk about it much(JK
), but I'll be leaving my job in a couple of months. I do like my boss as a person (not so much in his official capacity) and we have the kind of relationship where he prefers to be told in advance about things. Would you tell him early or would you just do the obligatory 2 weeks?
As a side note, I will need a week off at the end of April for my Dr's appointment and a 3 day essay workshop for the bar. So I would at minimum, I have to talk to him mid April. My last day will be May 11. Would you give them a heads up?
Ditto all this. Except mine was a non-regifted gift.
Nice Job Hoektastic!
MissyNa: I tried to see if there was a replacement insert and there wasn't. I'll borrow one of my Mom's since my turkey legs don't fit in the smaller one I have. I'll have to keep a watch out for a sale again. Maybe Target or Bed,Bath.
DH found some tutorial's for me on File Maker Pro. Yeah homework!
B&G: Not knowing to much about your work place I would say 2 weeks would be fine. If you think they will have a hard time filling the position then maybe 4 weeks.
Good morning.
Hoek, glad Henry cooperated.
Deeder, sorry about the crockpot.
WOP, where was your field trip yesterday? Is your whole company feeling Valentine-hung over? Do you immediately go into Easter mode now?
B&G, does your boss understand that you aren't long term there? Will your notice shock him? If you feel that you can clue him in w/out it affecting your work environment, go ahead. But if it'll make things weird, I'd hold on to the news for a while yet. You already don't like your job, you don't need to make it any worse.
I have been having muscle spasms in my neck since yesterday morning.
It sucks. Women in my family are prone to neck problems -- we're not built right or something. I don't even know what started it for me this time, though. I was hoping it would be better this morning, but it was even worse when I woke up. I did some yoga, took some Advil, and made a potassium-rich smoothie. It's feeling a bit better now... hopefullly it keeps getting better. It was rather comical trying to wash my hair this morning when I can barely move my neck and and can't lift my right arm very high either. Ha!
My good news: when I got home from my board meeting last night, I found that B had hidden valentines all over the house. Cheesy, but super sweet. Major bonus points for him. I'm still finding them.
That's sort of where the struggle is. I'm already leaving at the end of the semester when all the administrative things needs to be done: graduation answers, semester evaluations, contracts for the next term etc.
In my mind, it can't be THAT much of a shock b/c it's no secret that I'm in school and have asked him for a recommendation for the Bar. But he may not have put it together? I don't know. I thought of telling him mid April just in case they give me crap about the week off, my last day can be the Friday before I need that week. Does that make sense?
I'd rather take the week then come back and do the two weeks, but if they give me a hard time over that week, I'm prepared to just say "forget it, I'm done" b/c then my focus will be on the Bar exam.
It went well. I had my first Costco experience yesterday (gasp!) in our travels. I would spend waaaay too much money there if I ended up with a membership. Haha.
It was interesting watching V-day shoppers (especially the men). I convinced a man to buy one of our products for his wife. I hope she liked it.
We're still waiting on total sales info, so the 'hung over' feeling hasn't started yet. We'll probably start Easter mode on Monday. Easter sales is a 4-5 week thing, instead of V-day being kind of a 3-4 day run. V-day is a sprint while Easter is a marathon.
My grandpa and dad grew up working at a family-owned florist. The cycles flow through my blood, I think. After Easter, you'll have the Mother's Day sprint, yes?
B&G, maybe you could start casually dropping "when I'm gone/transition/training a new person" into some conversations?
Jim took a personal day today. It's nice to see him relaxing after so many evening and weekend work events and meetings. Henry is thrilled to hang with dad. This afternoon, Willa has a 100 days of school party. I'm volunteering, and I'm excited to lead the BINGO table!
Hi everyone. Happy Wednesday!
Not much to report here. Noah and I are going to run some errands this morning. One of them to sign him up for swimming class again. I hope there are still spaces available! He LOVES the water. I was always really afraid of it since I could not swim. Then I had a near drowning experience when I was 7 that sealed it. I am OK in the shallow end, but get me in the deep end and I get a little panicky. (this coming from a girl who was on the rowing team in college...kinda funny that I was OK doing that!) I do not want him being afraid of the water, so we are going to continuously have him in classes.
Yep. Last year Easter and Mother's day were only 2 weeks apart, so things never slowed down. It was pure craziness around here. This year though, there's a bigger gap between the two holidays. I kind of wish things were closer together so we could bust out the two holidays and be done like last year. After Mother's day we start to slow down a bit and go back to normal.
Deeder - sorry to hear about the crock pot! What is it with us ladies and breaking our glass cooking things?:)
WOP - that is interesting about the sprint/marathon in the flower business. I never really thought about it. Do you work for a flower shop or distributor, or something else?
BnG - I personally would wait if you feel comfortable doing that. But you are right...if they give you a hard time say "peace out peeps"
Hoek - YAY for accomodating toddlers!!!!
Kasa - I hope your neck feels better soon, how awful! I love that B hid valentines around for you. How sweet.
GRSP - Nice to have Jim home for the day and you get to volunteer in Willa's classroom. I cannot wait to do that someday!
Yeah I'll wait as long as possible. My official two weeks notice day will fall on the Friday I'm in GR lol So I'll have to give him at least 3 weeks. I'll tell him when I ask for the week off. I usually give about a week of lead time before I take more than one day off anyway
Stargirl- i can't swim. I will hang out with you in the shallow wend with you if that's ok. It's one of the main reasons why I don't want a house with a pool or water access. B loves to swim. Very cool of you to get Noah in the water so early.
I work for a distributor.
I think there is some V-day hangover going on at our house. Allison is GRUMPY!!
I had some guys come in today to give me a quote for windows and basically they said they would be too expensive and go with a window replace company. I totally respect that from them. So now I'm calling some places. This sucks because I think most window places are scammers.
Jeez, just a minute, I have to tend to Miss Grumpy!
Kasa, I'm impressed by B. Nice job!
Would a chiropractor help your neck? Or a heated neck wrap? Ow, and i'm sorry.
Better yet, on the side of the pool with a cocktail in hand.
Heat wrap would help.
Chiropractor...
. My mama raised me to believe that chiropractors cause more harm than good. Ha! I've never been to one and neither has she. I know my aunt sees one for her neck, and it's been helpful.
GRSP, I hope you enjoy your day today with Jim and the kindergartenders. Fun!
T was (allegedly) up from 11-2 ish throwing up. I slept through it all.
T and I are cuddling in bed right now. He wakes up periodically and cries for juice, takes a sip and lays back down. I am battling a cold as well.
Grandpa passed away yesterday around 5:45. My dad was with him, said it was very peaceful. He called me about 5 minutes after it happened. I skipped class and spent the evening with my 2 Valentine's. We made homemade pizza (not heart shaped though...lol). I was glad to be able to spend that time with my boys rather than that wretched class/teacher. :P
My mom had a stroke due to a Chiropractor adjusting her neck wrong.
Mol, I'm glad to see you here today. I've been thinking about you all morning. Hope everyone is feeling okay today. Continued thoughts your way.
Kasa, I don't advocate for Chiropractors (I have kind of the same thoughts as you). Jim goes weekly, and loves it.
Do you have a neck wrap? I've made them out of tightly woven socks and rice before. Feels so good.
