monday randoms

*poke poke* are that many people out for presidents' day??

we got our first snow of the winter last night. i had been ignoring weather reports so when it started snowing it came as a mild surprise and the fact that it accumulated so much overnight was a bigger surprise, but i assume it will be gone by tonight since it will be in the upper forties today.

i'm also VERY happy and relieved that we got all our tons of leaves blown off the patio/yard saturday. perfect timing.

uhhh. hm. i was hoping my randoms wouldn't be so boring. shoot. sorry.

Re: monday randoms

  • I'm here...at work.  Blow.  I'm wearing jeans as a sort of act of defiance.  I'm 12.

Wow.  I am sitting here trying to think of something to share.  I got nothing.

  • I am working today too and it is very slow and pointless to be here.
  • I'm working. I have little to contribute. I feel boring today. I had a total crudest last night because I'm overwhelmed suddenly with the house and 4 weeks left at work. I crying at night because it gives me puffy eye. I dyed my hairs this weekend just to cover the gray.

  • I am here. I took Thursday and Friday off and am sorting through 300+ emails, while also trying to organize my projects to hand off to my team. And my right boob is itchy.

  • i'm sorry you're feeling overwhelmed winged. i would too! it sounds like a lot to deal with.

we are all bored at work in bored solidarity. meh.

  • I am working but don't want to be.

I threw a kick ass shower this weekend, if I do say so myself.  Look at that table!  I got nothing on those Sesame Street cupcakes from Krisdi, though.  Those are so adorable!

Flameful is that I absolutely don't think the couple should have gotten married.  My cousin is way too young.  And coming from me that's saying something.

I put fake meetings on my calendar today so no one would set up a meeting with me.  I just want to sit in here and pout about how tired I am.

  • :O i want to eat all the things SB!

that's the worst feeling, when you fundamentally disagree with a loved one's marriage but there's no way you're going to voice your grievances about it.

that is a great avoidance strategy with the outlook calendar trick.. i've seriously never considered that. lol.

    image
  • SB, I usually employ that method to block off time to get my work done. Unfortunately everyone ignores my calendar.

  • I'm at work, and I'm feeling kind of sick and very cranky. I don't want to be here. And I just used my last tissue.  whine whine whine.

Sorry you're feeling overwhelmed Winged.  I'm sure everything will fall into place over the next few weeks, but I know that doesn't really help how you feel now.

SB, that table.  I want one.

People ignore it if I put "Work," which is what I generally do when I need to just get shiit done.  But if I make up meetings (and I can invite my bf who also works here and is one of my clients, if I want to get really crafty) with an actual title, people seem to respect it.

  • oh, and also, why do 95% of maternity clothes have horizontal stripes?  I understand that they're good for emphasizing the boobs and belly, but they're also emphasizing my expanding ass.  No bueno.

  • I refuse to buy strips. It's so scary, boxer. The ass.....so huge. Motherhood seems to have the best prints.

SB, I love the whole look of that table. So, are they younger than you in number from when you got married or just maturity?

    Pictures KB!!

  • I was alone at work this morning when what I can only assume was a transient came into my office and accused me of being unpatriotic for being at work on Presidents Day, and apparently also for not wearing presidential apparel, because she had a shirt with Abraham Lincoln on it (she showed me). She starting singing "Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord" and I interrupted her because it was making me uncomfortable having that much unbroken eye contact and she got angry, said my generation was disrespectful, and left.

    I locked my office door.

  • I'm also at work today. Trying to figure out if I'm coming down with something.  Not sure if the sore throat is due to dry air or something else.  Boo.

I've been off the pill for 2 weeks now and I'm breaking out like a teenager.  Stupid hormones.

  • I'm here trying to fight staying awake because I have so much to do.  People are coming to see our current condo between 12-2 and I have someone coming to the new place at 2:30 to give me a quote on refinishing the floors.

People, tell me it's normal that my 1 year old just started to wake up in the middle of the night between the hours of 2-5 and decides he's done sleeping.  Please tell me this is normal.  And how to stop it.  Last night was the suck.

I bought a heart shaped box of Godiva chocolates at CVS last night on clearance and just finished it.  Fat.

Thanks!  And it's both.  Well, the groom is actually a bit older than me, but very immature.  My cousin is 20, and acts like a teenager.  A young teenager.

They just don't think about things at all.  Her dad is deployed in Afghanistan right now, and she didn't call him to say she was getting married.  He found out because he happened to call home on the wedding day.  It was like it hadn't even occurred to her that he would want to know or be upset about it.  He is coming home on leave in two weeks and they didn't even think, hey, maybe we should move this hastily planned wedding back a couple of weeks so the bride's own father could be there.

That's just one example.  Another one that seriously pisses me off is that she found a kitten that turned out to be deaf, got another kitten from the pound to be it's playmate.  Then because she wasn't at her parent's house enough to take good care of them, she gave them both to the pound.  This was less than two weeks before they moved into their own place, where it wouldn't have been a problem.

They just don't think anything through, at all.  It's frustrating.

Also, I am really sorry you're stressing out so much.  I know it's a lot, but just try to remember that in a couple of months everything will be behind you.

CVS has godiva? hmmm. I should add to teh two boxes I already have at home, right?

Dagger had some sleep issues around that age. I think it was associated with just being more aware and wanting to be with us, so we had to do CIO. What are you doing now? Are you spending that time with him? Because that is what we were doing, which was giving him what he wanted. He responded well to CIO, I know some people think it's the devil, but we have a kid who sleeps solid 11-12 hours a night and that was not happening before CIO.

Also, are you nursing still? I am not sure if you nursed at all? Anyway, I cut out the night feedings as he didn't need them.

Ouch SB. Yeah, she sounds seriously immature. And while he may be as well, the fact that he is older than you and married a 20 year old who is that young in the head gives me the heebs. How soon until she gets turned into a babymaker?

  • We have done the CIO in the past and I think it's time to revist.  Last night Ryan and I alternated every hour.  We put him down and then he would just cry until the other person couldn't take it and got up with him.  We would bring him into the LR (no lights on or anything) and sit in the rocker and he would fall back asleep.  Put him in the crib and repeat the whole thing again.

It's happened a few times in the past week and I know we just have to buckle down and do it.  SO. HARD.

He's always been a good sleeper (except when he had ear infections) and I'm thinking that because we would hold him when he was sick he expects it now.

I'm not nursing, but he's been very weird with drinking lately.  Sometimes he'll take a whole bottle down in 3 minutes and others he'll only have a few ounces and then toss it aside.  We also just started adding cows milk to his formula and I'm wondering if that's what's sparked a change.  He's had no tummy issues as of yet (we're on 1/2 half milk/ 1/2 formula).

  • I drank too much yesterday, and I am hungover today.  I haven't been hungover in a long time.  My co-workers and I are going out to lunch, and all I can think about it greasy food.

Someone pinned a copy-cat Chipotle guacamole recipe on Pinterest.  It doesn't have garlic listed as an ingredient.  This can't be, right?  My daughter is severely allergic to garlic, so that's why I care so much.  I emailed Chipotle to see if it does have garlic.  If it really doesn't, OMG, that opens up a whole new option for her.

We are renovating our powder room and the floor has been torn up for weeks.  I am getting annoyed because we haven't done anything to the room for a while.  It's an eye-sore to look at, and it hurts to walk on the uneven, rock-filled subfloor.

  • Yeah, he is used to you holding him. Also, if he is falling asleep on you and waking up in the crib that can be very startling. he needs to know how to fall asleep in the crib. You have to put him down drowsy. But that was our second step.

So, for us, first, we just did CIO with the night wakings until he would go back to sleep. And we tried to the interval thing at first, but each time he saw us that would just cause a reset.

Then, once that was done, we tackled night time CIO. Then, I would go into his room and rock him, tell him I loved him and we were going to go night night. And that he was going to go night night in his crib and I was going to go in my bed. And I just reassured him it was ok and that I would see him in the morning. I said it the same way each time. And then I put him in his crib first when his eyes were almost shut after a long rock and then in intervals I would do less rocking and have him be more awake. And now I don't have to say any of the nighttime reassurance stuff.

Also, I would have him walk with me instead of carrying him to his room. I wanted him to be an active participant in his own nighttime routine instead of feeling like he was being made to do it. Oh, yeah, and I would have him go "kiss papa night night" as part of the routine, which he now loves to do.

He also sleeps with a couple of stuffed eeyores and we rock with them too. I think that sense of security helps to transition with them.

  • Miller, could you just ask at the chipotle for allergen purposes?

That is the effing WORST!!  My skin was worse when I first went off BC then it ever was while growing up.  I tried a million different products, and this stuff wound up helping the most: http://sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P55427&categoryId=B70

For some reason when I started reading this, I thought it was Audrey posting. I had a good thirty seconds of "Dude, you're pregnant!!" judging before I realized my mistake.

Yea, but I don't always trust the employees to know that stuff. I emailed corporate directly, so we'll see.

  • Miller, a google search led me to a comment saying that they had worked at Chipotle and they don't use garlic.  I would ask to be sure, but that would be awesome if it didn't contain it!

I've found that Chipotle and Qdoba are great and the employees are well informed about allergens.  since garlic isn't a top 6, it won't be listed in their allergen info, but the Chipotle website has a page where you can view the ingredients.  It does list spices for guac but not garlic.  The barbacoa does list garlic so I'm wondering if that means they would call it out for other items?

  • Coley, I know Isaiah is a little younger (8.5 months) but we have been dealing with night wakings too. I always nurse him back to sleep but I think I'm ready to start letting him go back to sleep on his own. I have Ferber's book and read it. I'm just trying to figure out a good time to start (or maybe work up the courage). He has had periods where he will STTN for a 2-3 week period so I know he can do it.

We also nurse/rock to sleep at bedtime and 9/10 he falls asleep in our arms. We need to break this habit too.

  • Thanks, Winged.  Ryan just called and said he got out of school early and that he wasn't sure if he should pick up Emmett.  I told him to pick him up and wake him up if he's sleeping.  Last thing I need is for him to be snoozing at the sitter's all day.

That's so cute about the eeyores and the kiss papa.  I love cute little kid stuff like that.

Emmett does have a little blanket like this that he can't sleep without.

    image

I don't even know how that happened, but sometimes he'll stand in the crib and drop it out of there and spaz.  I really have to order another one.

So I guess tonight we shall let him CIO.  Hopefully in a few days it'll be back under control and he'll be sleeping all night again.  I hope.  Pray.  PLEASE.

  • I'm in your corner. Dagger has a blanket he likes too, but there is a difference with the plush toy. he sees it as his friend. Like, he tries to feed it and stuff. Also, I can say "Eeyore is going night night and wants you to go with him" now to manipulate him into earlier bedtime.
  • I just woke up. I was at the hospital until 7 am, and then I came home and went to bed. Now I feel out of sorts, and I have a ton of work to do. But I have my anatomy scan to look forward to at 3!! Winged, I'm sorry you feel overwhelmed. Things will work out, and you'll have a lovely new master to enjoy. Christin, I used to run a few miles a week before I was pregnant, but now I walk at 4 on a 2% incline because I've had problems keeping my heart rate below 140. They did say that lifting with my upper body and doing non-core lower body exercises were ok, so I've been doing lots of plies and side squats. But I've cut back working out from 3-4 days a week to 1-2 because I feel too tired if i do more than that. I'm 19 weeks now.
    We, we like to party.
