S/O Where do YOU find the time?

We are all busy! But we all have 24 hours in day. How do you find time to get in your workouts?

I try to go in early to work so I can come home at a decent time to get in my workout. One night a week I stay late at work so I can meet a friend to swim and go to a track workout.

Weekends are a priority for me. I always workout on the weekends. DH plays soccer on Sundays and I go to a class. Sometimes we swap workout times so one of us can take care of my SS or we workout together.

I loathe early morning workouts so I choose not to get up early to workout.

Re: S/O Where do YOU find the time?

  • Mornings. It's a necessity if I stand a chance at working out and following my training program for running. I can always shorten my days by going to bed earlier if I'm tired, but I can't stretch them out if that makes sense.

  • when I run I always go after breakfast and take my my girls in the stroller. I have about an hour before they start to drive me nuts and the days I do a workout video I wait till FI gets home then I can do it. When I used to do longer runs I would wake up early in sat and do it. If I had to work Is don't know what I would do. I really admire the ladies that have families work and find time to workout.
  • 99.5% of the time I run after work during the week, and long run on Saturdays. I have no kids and pretty much 0 obligations except myself, and DH.

  • For me it's about prioritizing. I have to work out around my son's schedule. I used to use his naptime for cleaning and chores, before I decided that my health is more important, so now I run during his naptime. I also sacrifice family dinnertime twice a week and leave my son with DH to go to the gym. My house isn't as clean and I definitely don't get much time to just relax, but those sacrifices are well worth it.
  • It is part of my daily routine (i.e. - get up, feed dog, drink coffee, work out).  What messes me up is when I travel for work.  I find hotel gyms to be too crowded and it is not always safe (or daylight) to run outside, so I often use workout videos I have downloaded on my laptop in my hotel room.

  • I get up at 4:30 to be at the Y by 5:00 to swim, lift, or run.  I will ride or run after work too.  I make sure I do my morning workouts because my afternoons can be unpredictable.
  • I prefer to run early in the mornings during the week.  I like having my evenings free.  I can easily get in 8 miles, sometimes 10 if I am up and ready to run by 5am.

On the weekends I do a long run and will spend a good 2 hours on Sunday morning cross training.

  • I don't find time. I make time. Mornings work best for me, plus it sets the tone for the day and I like having my evenings free. I go to a yoga class on Sunday evening.

  • I run during my lunch hour two days a week.  I use weekends for longer workouts.  I only workout after work once a week, and it's a weightlifting workout that I can do at home.  Once it gets too hot to run during my lunch hour, I'll change in my office and go right after work.  Once it gets too hot to even run in the evenings, I'll have to wake up an hour earlier and go before work.

Change long runs to Sundays and this is me.

When I'm training and I know I have an after work obligation, I've met some people from my running group at 5am to get some miles in, but mostly it's after work and weekends.

Can you give me some of your motivation please?? Mornings are so hard for me! For me mornings kind of cross the line for me. I know though that once it's lighter out in the morning I'll have to start! And I know I feel great all day if I workout in the AM>
  • We have a nice home gym set up, so I am able to work out whenever I can fit it in. The jogging stroller will be huge now too, since I can take the baby out while the other two are both in school (dd goes full day, ds a few hours a week) i also have an amazing mom who watches the kids one morning a week so I can do a long run.

  • Morning.  Leaves the rest of the day for me to do what I want (which is often working out again, but whatever).

I am up at 4:30 to go to boot camp from 5:30 to 6:30.  Then work.  Then I get home and either go to yoga or go running.  Then dinner with H, chores, and sleep before 10.  Repeat.  I catch up on sleep and entertainment on the weekends (though I still work out on weekends too).

  • Lunch. But I also get to work extra early so I don't feel to guilty taken a longer lunch. Everybody knows I work at lunch EVERYDAY. (going on 2 years now) Not a issue with my boss.
  • I get up an hour and a half earlier than I need to to go to 5:30 CrossFit.

(Normally.  This is on hiatus because I've been alternately super sick and on pelvic rest for the last month.)

  • I may switch to morning workouts during summer. But right now my runs are in the evenings after DS goes to bed around 7. Also, I'll run on my telework day during lunch time.

On the weekends, I run in the morning one day and the other day do my CT at the gym during DS nap time.

  • weekends.  I do longer workouts on the weekend when I have more time and usually workout both weekend days.  I also do a lot of meal prep on weekends to facilitate quicker weeknight meal prep and to free up my weeknights for workouts.

I also come into work a little earlier so I spend less time commuting.

  • Mornings.....mostly.

IF for some reason, I can not make it in the morning, I will go to work early, pack my gym bag, change at work and then head to the gym (or trail) or have the DVD ready to go when I get home.

The less fuss I have to make getting ready, the better.

  • Pre-pregnancy I went to work early so I could workout/run after work. I am still following roughly the same schedule but my "workouts' have become pretty light these days.

I am the worlds worst morning exerciser. If I don't have a couple hours to wake up slowly, eat breakfast and have coffee, (i.e. the weekend) it's not happening.  I have a feeling that will have to change when I have two babies to contend with.

I will make time because it's important to me. It might be a few months before I get my new normal all figured out. Fortunately we now have a treadmill and weights at home, so time of day and weather won't be an excuse. Exhaustion from two newborns might be though Stick out tongue

  • I schedule it as part of my day.  Only rarely do I go home before I work out (if I do, it's simply to change clothes and leave).  Some days, it's during my planning period because I have meetings (like today).  Some days, it's after school.  Weekends, it's first thing in the morning.

Working out is a part of my life and a priority as high as work and family. I make it  non-negotiable in my head - never say things like "if I have time, I'll hit the gym." I put it in my planner and it takes a LOT to make me miss it.

I also have no kids and no big obligations outside of work, which thankfully is not demanding outside of normal working hours (at least about 95% of the year).  I run before work, can usually make it to a yoga class or two during the week.  I do my long runs on the weekend.

This is the same for me.  No kids, no pets, nothing major.  Running time just gets scheduled in almost daily, just like work.  If I need to do errands a few days and skip out on my runs, I don't beat myself up over it.  Running 4-5 times a week is what works for me.

  • I know it sounds a bit clich?, but I just make it happen.  I am Miss. Cranky Pants if I don?t do something active at least 5-6 days a week.  During the week I either workout at lunch, hit the trail after work, use the treadmill in our basement, or go to the gym after work and usually try and squeeze in a class and a run.  I always bring my gym bag with me to the office, even if I am planning to go to lunch.  That way if plans change I still get my workout in.  I frequently pass up opportunities to go to lunch with co-workers or grab a drink with friends to go to the gym.

  • Definitely mornings.  If I leave it until later in the day, there's only about a 25% chance that I'm going to actually do it.  When I had to be at the office by 8:00, I would get up at 4:45 or 5:00 to workout.  Now that I work at home and for myself, I work from 6 or 7 to 9:00, then take a break of a few hours.  I workout, run errands, shower and eat, then go back to work for the afternoon.  This schedule works really well for me.

I save my longer workouts, which tend to be high-intensity activities that I really love like inline skating or mountain biking, for the weekends when I have time to really enjoy them and don't have to rush.

  • I get up each morning at 4:30 to make it to the gym but 5AM.  I am like most others - if I don't do it first thing - its most likely not going to happen.
  • I am so not a morning person, so I go to the gym at lunch time, or I run or do a video after work.  I get off at 4pm, and I don't have young kids to take care of, so I basically have my entire evening if need be.

Monday and Wednesday nights I take Tae Kwon Do for 90 minutes, so that's my workout on those nights, but I do usually go to the gym on those days at lunch and strength train.  I also usually workout both days on the weekends.  Thursday or Friday is my rest day.

  • I'm fortunate (maybe?) to be unmarried and child-free, so it isn't too tough. My only interference is work. I generally work out after work 4 days/wk and once on weekends. If I'm going to the gym, I take a bag to work with me because I know if I go home to change clothes I am more likely to skip the gym altogether. I run 3 days/wk, outside if weather permits, then cross train/weights 2 days/wk.

  • I'm a culinary student, who has class in the PM and don't get out of class until 9 or so. Right now so I run in the morning. If I have an especially crappy day in class I try to hit the gym that is right now the way from school for either some elliptical work or strength training.

On the weekends, I usually do one run and take the dogs on a longer walk, or go on a hike with them. I'm looking to add in a yoga or pilates class

  • On days I do Crossfit, I get up super early to do the 6am class before DH goes to work. Other days I will go to the Y and drop the kids off in the daycare. When my oldest starts preschool this fall I will be able to add the double jogging stroller back in too.
