Taller Ladies- What your ideal weight?

I'm 5'9 and think I could loose another 5-6 lbs and that would make me 135. I still have a belly and muffin top from my pregnancies. Now I know when I put my weight and height into a BMI calculator I'm at the bottom of the normal range. But whenever my friends ask me like how do I weigh they are shocked I weigh that much. It makes me feel bad and that I should put my goal lower.

Re: Taller Ladies- What your ideal weight?

  • Are your friends short?  My mom always told me (and this is just an old bit of conventional wisdom) 100 pounds at 5', and 5 pounds for each inch above that.  So I would be good around 120.

I'm like 126 these days and I'm 5'4".  140 doesn't sound crazy to me at all, especially for someone with 5" on me!

  • I totally agree with you. It all depends on size, body type, height and what your idea of healthly is. One a few different occasions I've heard "wow you weigh that much"
  • Are you trying to look like an anorexic?  Because at your height, that's what you'd be going for if you lower your goal weight too much.  And it would probably be impossible to maintain.

I think people are saying that they think you weigh less. I think at your height, the number on the scale is fine, Maybe you just need to work on toning things up a bit more.

When I was in the Marine Corps & running a lot, I was 5'4 & weight 138 but I only had 16% bodyfat. Everyone always thought I weigh less.

Don't worry about the number so much & maybe focus more on the toning/cardio to burn the baby fat off.

    Good luck

Gosh No!! I just want to get rid of my pouch and muffin top. if that's only 2 or 3 lbs so be it.

  • Losing your "pouch and muffin top" has nothing to do with number on the scale.  Work out, eat better and those parts will firm right up.  Losing weight =/= smaller belly.

    fwiw, I'm 5'10" and weigh 130.  I still have a belly pooch.

  • well, I don't have your problem (height) I'm only 5' tall, but my mother is 6' tall (how that worked out I'll never know!), but she also has a larger bone structure, her most "healthy" looking weight was right at 150-155. She looked awesome, even after carrying twins and having a c-section. Once she got down below that weight she looked ill. She hurt her back a few years ago and had to stop the weights and other items she was doing, so she is back up around 170, she dosen't look bad, just a little more belly and less toned.

  • I am 5'9" also and weigh 150.  I don't think I could lose anymore weight!  150 is hard for me to keep up.  I feel good at this weight and my stomach feels flat.
  • Thanks everyone for your input I appericate it and I'm just going to keep doing my thing and not worry too much about it. As long as I feel good that's all that matters :)
  • This doesn't sound like a numbers on the scale issue...it sounds like a how your body looks issue.  Focus less on losing weight and more on eating well and exercising.  Try cutting out things like alcohol, sugar and refined carbohydrates, and add more protein, healthy fats and fiber.  Also, while you can't spot reduce, cardio and especially strength training will burn fat and increase muscle.  The number on the scale may not budge, but you will see a change in the way your body looks and the way your clothes fit.

  • People just aren't a good judge about what certain weights look like on someone especially when you work out I've found. I'm 5'9" and my good weight is 137. When I was training for my half my friends kept thinking I lost weight, but I never did.  It's just people's perceptions.  I'm in the same boat as you right now. I've got about 6 lbs left to go, but feel like I still have a lot of fat left to lose.  Nothing to do but keep chugging along working out and eating well!

  • It totally depends on you. Im 5'10", if i were to drop below 160, id look deathly. I cant imagine being in the 130s. Ideal for me is about 165, and at that weight im about a size 6 and am fairly bony. Ive been told i weigh more than what i look like. The actual # doesnt bother me, its what i look like and how i feel.

  • I'm about 5'8" and am at 137 right now. I want to lose my pooch and tighten/ tone up my legs more. But its not about a perfect weight for me, its what my body looks like and how I feel. My friends and I have all discussed our weight and someone who weighs more is much smaller than me, etc. Everyone is different so we tend not to focus on the scale.

  • I agree it depends on the person.

I am 6' and hang around 140lbs. I'm happy with that. I think most girls my height probably weigh more, but thats the weight I've been since I hit that height back in high school and I do my best to keep it there. And I still have a bit of a pouch.

  • Muffin tops are more how your clothes fit. Maybe you aren't buying the right fit or size of clothes. Since you have had kids, it could also be diastasis. You can Google it; there are exercises you can do to help correct it. If not, a tummy tuck is the only fix.

This is me too. I'm 5'10" and it is pretty much impossible for me to be less than 155 because I naturally have a thick, muscular body. So much depends on your frame and body shape.
