Is any one giving up anything for Lent? If so, what?

    I'm skipping this year.

  • Hi ladies! Not much to report here. We went to the story time at BC library again and it was nice. (wop, you need to skip work so you can meet us there.) I cannot remember ever having a "poonschki"...and I am Catholic, so I am pretty sure that is a sin.;) I haven't given to anything for Lent in a long time. I usually try to do more of something...pray more, send people random cards, be more friendly and helpful to strangers when I am out and about. Etc...

  • Juli, they're eliminating all jobs in our department and replacing them with new ones, so everyone who still wants to work here *cough cough* has to reapply. I don't.

I need to stick it out for a little less than 4 weeks to get my full severance. Of course, if I find another job in that time I'll say sayonara severance, but in the mean time I am making my required appearances. Also, I just got the ok to work from home 3 days/week. I'm not supposed to tell anyone about it. But... um... yeah. I don't care.

It's already been an interesting two weeks. No one is even attempting to hide the recruiter calls, interviews, or anything.

  • Wow JGE- that sounds interesting. Will the new jobs have the same functions as the old ones?

Which days are you going to pick to work from home?

Well that sounds . . . interesting.  Seriously, that stinks though.  For everyone, it sounds like.  I'm glad you still have a job and can get severance if you stick it out, but here's hoping you find a better place soon.

Most of the descriptions are changing. I'm going to try working from home Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.  I'm sure I'll be in the office more than that though. (well, maybe not, we'll see.)

It sucks for a lot of people. I'm in a pretty good spot. If I don't find full time employment fairly quickly, I'm going to try school full time =)

  • re: Lent: I think I'm going to try and add something... maybe exercise...
  • JGE. I know that we have talked about this before because we know mutual people of where you are. My friend and their dept went through the same thing - they all got split up and my friend had to wait until that Friday to find out if he still had a job or not. I heard big changes are happening.

  • I'm running in to say hi. "HI!!!!".

Been busy today. Helping my parents, running out to Hastings and Invoicing and now getting ready for a meeting. Miss ya'll today.

Lent: I don't participate in that really but I know that fish will be in high demand and that make DH hubby because he will get more of it.

JGE: Bummer about the job situation. I'm glad to hear you have a couple different plans to go with. This now makes more sense from what I'm getting off your twitter feed.

I bought raspberry Paczki's for SS and he took 4 to school and ate 3 and gave one to a friend.  Sugar high anyone???

When touring schools for Allison I saw a poster at one of the locations and it stated "If you have to add just kidding, then you shouldn't say it in the first place."  I think that goes along with saying "no offense".

  • Yeah ok...I've never seen the Lil Rascals. I've seen the character. I thought- I hoped maybe he says that thoughout the movie or show.

    But if not, then what???Huh?

  • Catching up because I wasn't here yesterday...

Charity, your comment was completely out of line.

GRSP, Paczki's are delicious and I used to consider them a requirement.  But after years of searching, I still haven't found any place locally that makes real, Polish paczkis.  The Dutch can make great banket, but I find their paczkis to be lacking.

I want a paczki.  :(  Mike had two yesterday and said they are overrated!  Ummm then don't eat them both!  I would have liked one!  Haha.

B&G, my dad grew up loving the Lil Rascals, and he made sure that his kids have seen at least a few episodes.  It's not a show that aged well (but none of them from that era did).   Buckwheat was, I think, the only black kid in the group of kids.  One of the kids' trademark line was "otay Buckwheat."  I can't speak for everyone else, but Charity's comment ruffled my feathers because you, our lovely B&G, happen to be (as far as I know*) the only regular poster who is black.

Charity, I don't know what your intentions were there, but dude... Like gvsu says if you have to say "no offense" you probably shouldn't hit post.

    * I dunno, maybe you're really an old Indian guy. ;)  Just going by your photo.  Also, I haven't met all of the ladies here, so I don't know...
