Pro form treadmill ?

I was recently given a pro form 400 GL treadmill. I did my first walk/run on it tonight and it seems like the speed reading is way off. When it says I am doing a 4mph or 15mpm pace, I feel like I am doing more like a 14mpm pace. When doing my usual run pace of 13:30mpm I felt like I was sprinting! Treadmills always seem a little fast to me, but not THIS much. Any suggestions? Ideas?

Re: Pro form treadmill ?

  • Treadmills are known to over estimate the distance you've run, but I would think that would mean that the mph shown would be faster than it really is (so the opposite of what you are saying).  Is this your first time using a treadmill?  If so, I'd guess you are just experiencing the weird phenomena where running on a treadmill is harder than running outside.  I run a lot slower on the treadmill than I do outside and feel like I am working way harder on the treadmill--even my heart rate is higher.  For what it's worth I have a Pro form treadmill that that someone gave me too!  I wouldn't worry too much about what the display says and just go by feel.
