Awkward Question - what do you think when you see a bigger/fatter person in the gym?

Re: Awkward Question - what do you think when you see a bigger/fatter person in the gym?

  • I don't really notice other people very often...if I do, it is usually my daughter's classmate's mom - mom of 3 w/ superhuman strength and rock hard abs...I keep my eye on her so I can be sure I never end up standing right next to her in a full length mirror, lol!!!

  • If I think anything, it's "go girl".  I'm usually thinking about what I'm going to eat after the workout though, LOL.

  • I go to a very comfortable family gym for this very reason.  I hate the gyms where everyone is hard-bodied and wearing skin-tight spandex and trying to out-pose each other.  When I see heavier people at the gym (and there are a lot at my gym. Isn't that why we're there?) I think "good for them!" and wish them well.
  • On Saturdays, I go to the fitness center at the church across the street from our house and you'll see ALL kinds of people there.

Honestly, there are only 2 people who've I've EVER even thought about while I'm there. One is the old guy (75ish) who walks on the treadmill WITH his oxygen tank. I have no idea why he needs the tank, but that man is faithful and, if he's not there, I worry about him.

The other is this girl who dances (literally dances) while she's on the elliptical. Im always amazed by her energy because the entire 30-45 minutes, she is bopping her head and obviously has a great time. She's so completely un-self-conscious, I'm more than a little jealous.

My point in all of this is that it's truly about YOU and what you think of YOURSELF.

Exercise like no one is watching. :)
