KONY 2012

Re: KONY 2012

  • Yes, someone on my FB said it's worse to bring awareness with no action or plan than to not be aware of the situation at all. Um, the plan is awareness and bringing awareness to our government.

  • ^This. Especially in an election year.

I had heard of the LRA before and knew of the concept of child soldiers, but I had never heard of Kony before I watched the video. I reposted it on my Facebook.

I seriously wish this upcoming semester was the one in which I needed to do my internship because I would be applying to IC so fast, especially while H is off doing his own school thing.

Also, is it just me, or did anyone else think, during the bit about us sending advisors over there, that if we just sent a few SEALS out after Kony he'd be trussed up in no time?

  • I'm currently in a FB argument with a guy who believes this is supplying weapons to people.  It's driving me nuts.

  • The point of the video/the movement/IC is to make people aware (and they are currently focused on CAR, DRC and Sudan rather than Uganda because that's where Kony is) of the issue, of the world around them, of something other than themselves. If this makes someone think "I really want to look into this more, but I care a lot more about North Korea than I do Africa" fine. They can do whatever they want in North Korea. If it makes them think "I really want to do something about Kony, but I don't think IC is the right way." Fine. Find another place that will do what you want to do to stop this. It's not about money, or saying they're the best organization, or slactivism (though there methods certainly encourage that it some regards with the twitter/FB thing) or whatever. It's about making people aware. Making people think. Making people want to do something to help someone somewhere, some way.

  • I just put a FB smack down on my own brother over this. I'm so embarrassed that he posted the whole "this doesn't affect us" rant.
