My gyno called. I have an abnormal pap.
I'm not freaking out (yet anyways). In a strange way I've been expecting this call for a couple of years now.
I have to call the office first thing Monday to schedule a colposcopy. Gravy.
This is my siggy.
Re: My gyno called. I have an abnormal pap.
They don't do another pap first?
Don't freak out. You are going to be just fine.
I'm with Muddled, I thought they re-pap'd.
papped?
whatever.
That happened to me a few times. Then I switched doctors. Because mine was swabbing my butthole the entire time. (just kidding, but I did switch doctors)
I'm sure all is well though!
Pipe down, you had your chance!
I don't know why they aren't papping me again. TBH, the call caught be off guard, so I just said "ok" over and over again.
I'm sure I'll get more info on Monday.
That's totally crap though, to call you on a Friday with
ohhaiyourpapsmearwasabnormalhaveagoodweekend.
At least do that shizz on, like Tuesday so you don't have to spend your weekend over analyzing it. Unless I'm the only one who does that, which is entirely possible.
A LEEP later, the cancer was gone.......I've had one abnormal pap since, and that resulting colposcopy showed nothing. I'm not saying that abnormal pap = cancer - I'm just saying that even if it is cancer, it's not the end of the world. You caught it, whatever it is, early.
I can overanalyze like a mofo. I'm trying extra hard not to. I thought it was pretty weak to catch me on a Friday too, but I'm sure it wasn't intentional. She was probably catching up on calls and paperwork before the weekend. I'll grace her with another peek at my vag next week and I can laugh about it all a couple days after that.
This is EXACTLY what happened to me. Don't worry too much.
Also, ask your doctor for xanax or valium before the colposcopy. Mine was a total piece of cake and I absolutely attribute that to the xanax I took beforehand.
Same thing happened to me. I did the full on freak out all weekend. Like, hysterical. No pun intended. I got a second pap which turned out fine. The clinic I was going to wanted to do a colposcopy, but I had to travel way far so I scheduled at a different clinic with a different gyn who went with the second pap to verify the abnormal results. Then I had to go again in 6 months, then 6 months after that. Once I had 3 normals in a row it was back to the annual.
Don't sweat it.
You are going to be fine, but more importantly, believe that even if it's not OK, you're going to be OK. You have people, and love, and support. You can take whatever life throws your way. You really can.
That said, this shits going to be fine. The other shits mentioned above is handy, though. Anytime it's needed.
This happened to me once...
I had to schedule a coloscopy, I went and they had these super magnifiers in my cooch he swabbed with idodine and he said everything looked okay so I didnt need to get the coloscopy done. Hopefully you're fine and dont need to get it done...
they also spilled iodine allll over my uniform so I had to walk out of the hospital looking crazy until I can go home and change. lol
good luck!
Hi Bowies, I'm just a lurker but I wanted to echo everybody else and pitch in my cervical history too. I had an abnormal pap, they did a colposcopy/biopsy, and determined that I needed a LEEP because of cancerous cells. There was no intervening wait six months for another pap - but still, the doctor assured me that this is not unusual. That was three years ago and I've had normal paps ever since. This sort of junk is why we go in every year for the paps in the first place - so we can catch it when it's early and totally treatable!
Oh also, your mileage may vary but I leaked iodine and spotted after my biopsy for a little bit, it was gross.
I had several abnormal paps and 2 culpos. The culpos were a little uncomfortable but pretty easy.
Once I quit smoking, my paps went back to normal.
I had an abnormal pap a few years ago. I colposcopy revealed CIN III (step below cancer). I had a LEEP and have been healthy since.
Don't stress too much. A colposcopy is really no big deal - I don't remember it being painful or stressful. The situation was certainly stressful, but not the procedure. I had my LEEP done in an OR (not the doctor's office) and that was scarier, but I again, over quickly enough.
This is what Paps are for - finding abnormal cells early so they can be taken care of. The transition from healthy cell to cancer cell takes years so everything is in your favor here.
Good luck to you! :-)
I hope everything goes well and that you are cancer free. That is scary.
Just chiming in to say that I so admire your attitude, not just on this but on everything that you've dealt with over the last few years.
I'm sure everything will be ok and I hope you're having a great weekend despite your Doctor's lousy timing.
I have had this several times. First time - repeated the test a few months later and was OK.
Second time - scheduled a colposcopy
There are many reasons you can have an abnormal pap that are inconsequential.
My Blog
I had that years ago. Turned out it was precancerous cells (for cervical cancer).
They treated it with a brief fairly painless procedure, and I have had normal paps ever since. This was over 15 years ago. So I hope you don't worry too much--I am sure it will be fine!
That happened to me.
I waited a month or so, then had another pap with another gyn. It was fine.
That other doc was too knife happy, imo. I cleared out of there and got another doc.
