So to my posters of my ill-conceived post..I am very sorry for that post. I did not mean to be racist and the words were just ill-coonceived and bigoted.
Now, I have a new problem with my douche boss.I need some help to see if there's something I can do.
My boss is giving off vibes that he wants me to quit. He will not fire me unless I really really screw up because he wants to get out of paying unemployment. I have documented many issues that I feel is slighting me. But none really compares to today's issues that happened.
My boss humiliated me in front of my customers to me by calling me "The Ultimate Bubblehead". This was unprovoked as I was serving the customers. I felt humiliated because the customers were looking at me like "well there must be a reason he called you that."
I was supposed to start the new pay period with a higher wage due to the raise my boss said I was going to receive (finally). However, when my boss handed me my paycheck, he informed me that due to my actions with the health inspector on Friday, he was withholding my raise for 30 days.
My actions? In the 3 years I've been working there, I've never met the health inspector, never was told was to say to the health inspector, nada. Apparently I was supposed to perjure myself to the health inspector by saying that the lone woman who holds the Food Management Certification still worked there. The problem? She hasn't worked there in 3 years. I was not told to tell them that she does work there and I was up front with the health inspector that she did not work there. I was then informed that someone else had to retake the Certification (at $200 out of pocket).
So the boss was called and updated that the inspector was there. I told him all about it, including the recertification requirement. He literally lost his mind. And he told me that I "better fix it or else." So I had to backtrack and perjure myself to the health inspector and recant my statement with the excuse that she comes in on my days off.
I plan on going to the labor board next Thursday and whistleblow the crap out of him. I'm going to bring him down somehow. I can't quit my job though. I have student loans, bills, expenses, not to mention I have no savings whatsoever so I literally live paycheck to paycheck.
What else should I do? Is there somewhere else that I can go to? What if I called the corporation? The store is pretty much hands off. The corporation doesn't care what goes on as long as they get their royalty check every month.
I'm so pissed and stressed. I really really want to quit. Too bad I can't afford to.
Re: I'm sorry and....
nela.org has a list of employment lawyers by state.
You need one.
Won't 'bringing him down' mean you lose your job when he closes the shop? Not that l want to discourage you from pursuing any legal recourse you may have here.
Frankly, your local paper probably has more sway here. Ours wrote an article about health code infractions, with a link to the Dept of Health website (which lists all the results for all of the restaurants town by town in the entire county). Now we all know which salad bars and buffets are letting serving utensil handles sit in the trays.
If he closes shop, it's a lay off. Layoff means unemployment and he has his other business (within the shop) to help offset those costs.
I can't afford a lawyer though, will the Labor Board help me?

Oh I am. The reason I took the job in the first place was to grind my way through college. I graduated, however I still haven't landed that elusive job, despite my searchings. Believe me, I am trying.
I don't know what the labor board in your state is empowered to do or not do.
Some lawyers take whistleblower/wrongful termination lawsuits on a contingency basis, which means they get paid out of any settlement.
You can also call the local law schools and see if they have a clinical program.
I'll cross my fingers for you. At this point, as long as the pay is similar to what you're making now, picking up pennies out of sewer drains would be preferable to working for this douche.
Good luck!

Thanks. I'm going to start looking for multiple part time jobs. Anything. ANYTHING. to get out of there. And I can't wait for the look on his face, should it happen before whistleblowing, when I hand him my notice and then disappear. The customers would be very interested in wondering why I split without warning. Especially the ones who come exclusively for my sandwiches. (I'm bragging but I am damn good at my job and I love my job. I don't like the guy I'm working for)
I love this idea.
Um, I think if your boss is leaning on you to lie to legal officials, you can't afford to remain there. Working at a Starbucks would be preferable to this chicanery.
You don't have to apologize. Your first post was a bit confusing and poorly worded but that doesn't change the fact that you are in a crap situation.
I agree that an employment lawyer is a good call. And I'll say for the third (fourth?) time that if this is a chain/franchise the corporate hq would want to know what is happening in a shop that represents their brand. Especially because it is happening in front of customers.
I agree that there is no need to apologize. And I also agree with HAB that you need a new job or jobs asap.
Do you feel comfortable sharing a little about what you went to school for, what kind of career you're seeking, what skills you have? There are a lot of smart people on this board, some with careers in HR (like me) who might be able to give you some targeted advice that could be helpful.
Without the benefit of more details, I am always, always a fan of temp work. Yes, it has drawbacks, but the opportunity for networking alone should be a good enough reason to try it. Not to mention the paychecks and skills you will collect along the way. And, unless your future career is in sandwich shop management, it will look better on your resume than your current job.
