  • Residents of PR are able to vote in the primary elections, but do not vote in the general election.

I never knew that.  What's the point?

  • There's also a primary in the USVI, Mariana Islands, American Samoa, and Guam.  They're US citizens, that's the point.  The parties get to set their own rules for who selects the candidates, so if they want to allow them to vote, that's their prerogative.

Neiner neiner, no presidential elections for you until you become a state & pay federal income tax--but here's a taste of what you're missing!

Lol, I don't know why exactly, but I think people from PR who move to the mainland US can vote in the general election, it's just those who reside in PR that cannot.

Of course they can. They're US citizens. But the way the electoral college is set up, territories and commonwealths do not get electoral votes, so they do not have a popular vote.

A primary is not a federal election, and thus they can vote. Just like they vote in local and territorial elections.

  • Honestly, I haven't given much thought to the voting rights of commonweaths & territories since high school government class.

I do appreciate any added opportunity for Santorum to show that he's ignorant, so yay to that.
