Tell me about your makeup routine

What do you wear on a daily basis? Does your make up change on the weekends or in the evenings if you go out? What products do you swear by?

Re: Tell me about your makeup routine

  • Bare Minerals face powder in medium, Bare Minerals warmth, BM eye shadow (I have a TON of colors), dark brown eyeliner (top and bottom), eyelash curler, Great Lash mascara in black.

That's my regular makeup and I apply it in that order. The only real change for "going out" is wilder/darker eye makeup. I rarely wear lipstick, usually just gloss.

  • Do you like bare minerals BBE? The girl who is going to do my wedding makeup said she will go with me to buy all of my own stuff from BM that she'll use for wedding makeup and that will be mine to keep. I really like that idea, I have never had someone help me buy good makeup before.
  • Um... I wash my face with Aveeno Positively Radiant. Then I use Aveeno daily moisturizer. That's it. I haven't owned makeup in about 12 years.

ETA: Oh, I forgot. I did buy some makeup for my wedding. I knew I'd need makeup to compensate for the camera flash. It was Clinique stuff. No foundation, just lipstick, mascara and eyeshadow.

    1. Eyeshadow (Naked palette by Urban Decay)

    2.  Eyeliner (if I use eyeliner and not dark gray shadow instead - I use the regular Maybelline pencil in black or charcoal)

    3.  Mascara (Last Blast).  Two coats

    4.  Benefit's "That Gal" (skin brightening primer)

    5.  Concealer (Laura Mercier- the one with 2 tones in the case).  Concealer is for pimples (or which I'm never free) and undereyes

    6.   Tarte's cheek stain (in Tickled)

    7.  Clear mascara (any brand)- to shape eyebrows

    8.  Make Up For Ever HD powder (I usually use it all over... but lately I've been using it on just my chin to kind of soften over all the fooking scars on my chin from pimples!  BASTARD!)

I do not wear foundation and once in a while i wear mascara but not too often since i have long dark lashes. I usually dont wear any makeup on the weekends unless im going somewhere special.

  • I always wear foundation, powder, blush or bronzer, and mascara.  Always.  I'm pale as a ghost, but my skin tone is very uneven (and I have dark circles under my eyes), so if I don't wear foundation I look like a meth addict.  If I don't wear blush or bronzer I look like I'm on the verge of death.

If I have time in the mornings before work, I'll add concealer and eyeshadow to my routine.  Lately I've been skipping the eyeshadow though because I'm lazy.

If I go out in the evenings, I'll definitely play up my eyes with both shadow and liner.  I might even wear some lip gloss.  I'm not a huge fan of lipstick or gloss, and since my lips are naturally rosy, I usually don't.  It's hard to find a color that shows up on my lips and isn't garish on me.

I normally wear drugstore brand makeup.  My favorite foundation/powder is the L'Oreal True Match.  My fave concealer is Benefit Erase Paste, and I'm trying not to use it so much since it's so pricey.  Lately I've really been digging the Sephora brand for blush and eyeshadow, but normally I use Maybelline mousse blush and L'Oreal HIP eyeshadow.  I'm all over the place with mascara.  Right now I'm using a Revlon one that comes in a red tube.  I really like it, whatever it is.  It gives me a lot of volume but doesn't clump.

    This is my siggy.

  • Wash with neutrogena.

    Add tinted moisturizer with SPF.

    Lip gloss. /done

For evenings I put on a full face if I am going out.

ETA: my evening makeup is all Benefit brand.

  • I'm not very consistant about make up. For a few weeks I'll wear it daily but then weeks go by where I only put it on for church on Sunday, if that. I wear pretty much the same thing regardless.

Brown or eggplant eyeliner from the dollar bin at walgreens, Jordana I think is the brand. Heavier line on the top, lighter line on the bottom. The brand is irrelevant, as long as it's the twisty one that doesn't need sharpening, not the stupid pencil that jabs me in the eye when it gets low.

Then I swipe on some eyeshadow, mostly browns, eggplant, violets, golds, or navy. If I'm feeling special, I'll use chocolate brown to set the eyeliner and/or a brown or a complimentary color in the crease. I mostly use Maybelline quads but I also have some eyeshadow pots from Hot Topic and Claire's, a few cheapie NYC brand.

Next comes the blush. I am a slave to Almay's color changing blush. It has the consistancy of moisturizer, goes on easily, and is the perfect color. I'm also a slave to Cover Girl's lip stain. I top it all off with cheap gloss. I was using some little pot from CVS but I found some cheap ass E.L.F stuff at target. I find it really difficult to pick the perfect lipstick color and no matter what brand or formulation, it makes my lips peel. So lipstain and gloss it is.

Occasionally I wear mascara but usually not.

  • Every day no matter what: Laura Geller baked powder foundation, Physicians Formula concealer if needed, Bare Minerals warmth, Nars Orgasm blush, Urban Decay eyeshadow primer in Sin (kind of a golden/minor shimmery look), mascara (right now I'm using Mally Roncal), chapstick

If I give two additional craps about how I look I'll add some Bare Minerals eyeshadow in a handful of neutral shades to make a smoky eye (barely there for day, heavier for night), black gel liner from Target, and I still haven't figured out wtf to do with my lips other than chapstick. I hate hate hate wearing lipstick!

  • For daily wear/just running around, casual stuff:

Benefit Benetint for my face....love that!

    Urban Decay eyeshadow primer

    Mac Kohl eyeliner

    Mac bronzer

    Lip gloss

If I'm going out somewhere, then I'll slap on eyeshadow, liquid eyeliner, maybe lipstick. I really dont go out much these days. Its working at home, school..thats about it.

  • I use the twisty eyeliner too HS, so much better!

DL, I looooove Bare Minerals. I've been using it for seven or eight years and it's the best. I don't like heavy face makeup - it's super light. Also, I really like that it warms to your skin, so the same eyeshadow might look totally different on you than it does on me. I'd definitely take your makeup girl up on shopping together, it's pretty fun stuff. Make sure you pick up their tinted mineral veil, that stuff is like CRACK for your face - it will immediately transform you into a glowy bride!

  • Chapstick makes my lips break out, Interro. You should try a lipstain and gloss combo. The lipstain is more like a marker for your mouth, which sounds weird but isn't, I swear. The only difficulty is deciding what color. Revlon and NYC makes one but their color goes on brighter and stronger. I like the lighter wash of the Covergirl.

I loooove love love the look of Bare Minerals, but I'm one of those people that is allergic to something in the powder... so when I wear it, my face itches like crazy.  And it gets worse in the summer... when I start to get warm or sweat, I feel like my pores open right up and the powder just falls into them... and then my face is painfully itchy.  I really did love the look of it... but I eventually had to give it up.  Tried every moisturizer, primer (even tried a foundation UNDER it)... still so itchy.   :(

  • I do my makeup in the car usually on the way to work. It takes about two seconds and I could do it with my eyes closed. I use:

Nars concealor under my eyes and any other trouble spots (which is a lot lately, thanks, baby)

    Bare Minerals Warmth Bronzer

    Tarte cheekstain in Blushing Bride

clear mascara on my eyebrows to keep them in place

Benefit mascara, curl eyelashes before and after.

I couldn't stand having bare minerals all over my countertops. I'm a hot mess. LOL

I also had a hard time mixing up a color that looks good on my skin. I just have to accept that I'm not made to wear foundation. Even Cover Girl's Queen line which is made for varying skin tones doesn't look good on me. Almay's color changing is the best but still doesn't blend in the way it should. Thankfully, I've got great skin. I don't really need it.

Yeah, that shiit gets everywhere. I didn't like it because I didn't feel like it gave me enough coverage, at all.

  • I just got the BB tinted moisturizer by Garnier and LOVE it!  I don't need any concealer with it, it evens out my skin tones and gives me a dewy/glowy look.  It's glorious.  After that

I add physicians formula blush in coral

do a smokey eye in brown/neutrals

    lash blast mascara

Burts Bees Wax lip gloss in Acai Berry

That's so strange, almost everything BUT chapstick makes my lips all wonky. They don't break out, but they end up dried out and flaky. Carmex, Burt's Bees, Blistex, any lipstick, every freakin' thing. It's very annoying. If I use plain old chapstick they stay soft and nice, if boring. :(

Now, for these lipstains. I want to love them, really I do, but clearly need help. The ones I've tried (drugstore brands but can't remember which) have made the creases and any dry spots on my lips look bright pink but barely tinted the rest. So I looked really special. Do the ones you've tried go on pretty evenly?

  • My SILs make a MASSIVE mess with Bare Minerals, but I've never had a problem with it. I always assumed it was because I'm careful and I only put a little at a time in the top to swirl my brush in.

Imoan have you tried any of the other brands of mineral makeup? I have tried a bronzer that was some other brand and it looks identical to BM's warmth - just a thought?

Interro, do you moisturize your lips before you put a lip stain on? If I'm putting color on my lips I always make sure they're super chapstick'd first.

    - namaste mothafockaaaas - image
  • From what I remember, I did the chapstick then stain thing. But it's been a while - I should probably give it another try at some point! My lips tend to be very flaky and uneven when they get dried out ... wicked attractive, lol.
  • a.m.:  wash my face (something with salycic acid) and a face lotion with SPF

touch up any under eye circles or blemishes (if necessary)

    powder

eye shadow (sometimes, if it is going to be a long day, I use a primer)

    mascara

p.m.:  wash with a face scrub, spot treat (something with benzoyl peroxide), use vitamin E on any dry patches (if necessary), and face lotion with SPF

This is my weekday routine. Weekend I do the same a.m./p.m. routine but makeup is minimal. Maybe some powder and mascara, but usually not. I use Bare Minerals powder. The eyeshadow is usually Covergirl or whatever I have a coupon for. Mascara is Avon. The eye primer is Mary Kay. I don't even know what brand anything else is. I don't pay too much attention to brand. I do love my Bare Minerals though.

Lipstick is for special occasions and I don't use liner. I own some, but I never feel like I apply it correctly.

I'm a huge fan of the Burt's Bees tinted lip balm.  I have Pink Blossom and PPD gave me Rose when she was my elfster this year (I haven't tried it yet because I'm still using the Pink Blossom).  I love that it gives a sheer color, but also moisturizers and you don't have that issue you have with lipgloss where it's so sticky that your hair gets stuck on your lips.

  • wash face with aveeno stuff, moisturize.

Then I do bare minerals because it's pretty idiotproof, but it does get everywhere. I do foundation and the bronzer stuff in front of the mirror with Joaquin, and then I use 'her' brush to give her 'makeup'.  ie, I rub the brush on my arm and then on her face and she laaaughs and laaaughs.

I do eyeliner in either charcoal or brown on the top lid, usually add a subtly sparkly gray because I'm a 13 year old, and a little mascara.

I'm in love with a neutrogena lip balm right now, too.  I don't wear color on my lips typically, because I feel like a whorish clown when I do.

  • Most mornings I splash my face with water, throw on eyeliner, and mascara (anything Loreal is perfect).  I really like the Super City Block from Clinique - it gives me an even dewy finish.  I like the concent of bare minerals but for some reason it makes my face look ruddy not smooth...like my skin is too dry or something.

I think so - I don't really remember but it seems unlike me to start anything lip-related without chapstick.
