Okay football peeps...Manning to Denver
So sayeth Chris Mortensen on the ESPN right now.
Plus this from Twitter:
Adam Schefter ? AdamSchefter Peyton Manning called John Elway this morning to tell him he's looking forward to coming to play for him.
Okay, 49ers...let's mend the fences with Alex Smith and move on.
Re: Okay football peeps...Manning to Denver
I swear I didn't think that Manning would under cut Tebow once I thought about it.
I feel bad for Tim, looks like he will head to the Jags.
Works for me!

That might not be a sure bet. The Jags just signed Chad Henne.
I wouldn't put it past the Dolphins to try and get Tebow. I said last week Miami's clown of an owner is all about putting butts in the seats, and not necessarily winning. All the Gator fans down here will go watch Tebow. Plus, Ross (the Miami owner) is all about big names. Tebow, for better or worse, is a name.
This seems like a logical outcome to me. Smith back to us, Tebow to Miami. Me happy Manning is in the AFC!

They must have just signed Henne. Smith paid Miami a visit this weekend didn't he..
Don't count on it.
Indeed he did. I think Alex is out of San Fran and honestly, I can't blame him. He went through how many different OC in how many years and learned countless different offenses? Then he played a heck of a season last year and they still were willing to get rid of him. He's gone.
I don't get the Denver thing for Peyton, though. It seemed to me that the niners stacked their team perfectly for him to win a guaranteed SB this year. There or Tenn seemed to be the best choices. Elway must've put up a heck of a sell.
I don't know. Something is unsettling about this. I didn't take Manning for a person who would take a job from someone with knowing that they would cut ties with Tebow post haste.
I kinda don't like knowing that Manning has that side for some reason, that win at all cost to whomever and whatever attitude. I know its ridiculous because where ever he went someone was getting shipped, maybe because it is Tebow and I think that kid has been handed a raw deal and mismanaged badly.
I've always thought Manning was a bit of an AW, but I'm incredibly biased. I'm obviously biased toward Tebow, and as much as I'd like him to stay here and get grandfathered into what could be a football dynasty, I know he'll be a professional and do his best wherever he ends up.
Well realistically wherever Manning went he'd be taking someone's job. I get that people "feel bad" for Tebow and I kind of do too, even though I'm not a Tebow fan, but Manning isn't going to avoid going somewhere that might result in hurt feelings for someone else, you know?
Elway has made no secret of his feelings regarding Tebow, makes sense though that he wouldn't be willing to cut him for anyone less than Manning though.
Im a fan of Flacco and clearly loathe the Colts/Irsays and that does spill over to Manning, but if Baltimore had made a play for him and gotten him (manning), I can't lie, I'd be kind of pumped.
Not here in "Gator Nation."
I don't know enough about trading - what are the Jags' options since they signed Henne?
+1 - although I wouldn't have a problem with either of them. It's business.
You may be surprised to learn that Alex Smith's 2011 stats and Manning's 2010 stats are almost identical. Assuming this was handled ok with Alex (and that's the story bay area bloggers are telling), I'm glad the Manning thing didn't work out.

Alex Smith has been there for several years and still blows chunks. Tebow is still shiny new and has the potential to not suck.
No one I know expects Smith to be able to maintain his not entirely sucking.
You should feel badly for Manning as Andrew Luck is taking his job in Indy!
Frankly, I dont feel bad AT ALL for Tebow. Please. His terrible mechanics have taken him pretty far and I'll be happy if this means the media stops talking about every damned second. I will hate life if the Patriots pick him up.
Tim Tebow will always suck as a QB. He needs to be a tight end. Perhaps he should stay in Denver and Manning can turn him into a Dallas Clark.
I'll take a QB who "blows chunks" every year, if it means we go 13-3 and to the NFC championship game.

Smith is a decent quarterback. Harbaugh was doing great things with him and the team. I hope he sticks around, they've got a great shot at another post season run, especially after signing Manningham.
In 7 seasons, he went through 3 head coaches, 7 offensive coordinators, and 17 different starting wide receivers. Pretty sure ANYONE would blow chunks after that kind of circus.
I love Tim Tebow and love watching him play, but realistically, he is little more than a glorified hype man. While it sucks for Tebow because he may never be a starting QB in the NFL again, I still think Alex Smith is the only one who was thrown under the bus on this one. Who knows if the niners can convince him to give them one last chance.
I think Smith was finally settling in with Harbaugh though, and hopefully they can come to an agreement and get it done. The additions to the recieving corps will hopefully help, and Harbaugh can keep Moss in line. Smith has turned into a QB who doesn't lose games, which is all you need if you've got a great defense.
I think for me it is more the realization that in the end Manning must be one selfish SOB and isn't necessarily playing for the love of the game but playing to get that one more ring. I know this is the name of the game, but he could have picked ANY team practically and helped an underdog team get some footing.
Optimistic SF fan checking in here, so obviously, there's bias but...I don't know if he's so out of SF. Where would he go? Seattle took Flynn. They're set. Denver has Manning. They're set. Jax has Henne and Gabbert, they're set. And that leaves, who, Miami? Miami isn't going anywhere anytime soon, with or without Smith (Who would have to yet again, learn another system and start up with another OC). Re-signing with SF would make sense. Both he and the team will have to swallow some pride, but it's what makes sense for both sides.
Who else is still out there searcing for a QB? Maybe Tennessee, but...eh. I still think SF is his best chance to win, especially now that they have Moss and Manningham (and they still have Davis).
Again, I'm looking at this through red and gold colored glasses, but...
This. Except for the whole "stay in Denver" thing.
Yes,I'm smiling...I'm a marathoner!

No, you're right, SF IS the best place for him. I just don't know if he'll stay. Reports are saying he's already been talking deals with Miami. I'm sure we'll find out soon enough.
And copz, I sort of get what you're saying but at the same time...their job is to win football games. Isn't that the point? To win rings? Especially when you're arguably the best player to ever play your position? I'm not sure I get why it's selfish. Even the contract numbers they're talking about are FAR less than what Detroit just gave Calvin Johnson, when we all know he could practically rob any of these teams blind if he wanted to. I just never got the selfish OR AW side of Peyton that PPs are referring to. For crying out loud, he didn't go to the NFC so he wouldn't have to take away shine from his own brother.
Honestly, I don't feel bad for Tebow, but I don't really think he's that awesome and I think that it'd be almost impossible for him to be a long term solution as QB for any team. I do feel bad for Alex Smith though. He's had a tough road w/ the frequent changes in SF, and he was finally looking at some stability (which he obviously did well with last season). I hope he and the 49ers can work it out so he can stay.
I don't hate Denver, so I'm happy with this b/c I can root for them without wanting to stab myself. I want Manning to do well and hopefully he can do that there.
I couldn't disagree more. Because Manning would replacing a QB no matter where he went, he's no more an SOB than anyone looking for a job. Why on earth would you hold an eagerness to win against anyone, especially someone that was cut from their team unlike a LeBron type?
