Okay football peeps...Manning to Denver
Re: Okay football peeps...Manning to Denver
I'm really having trouble understanding how you're coming to this conclusion that he's a selfish SOB. He played his whole career up to this point in Indy - he never pursued free agency to get to a bigger market with more $$, he's put his body through a lot of crap to play more football. I think he's under no obligation, to anyone, to go play for Jacksonville or Cleveland just because they're terrible.
I did say earlier that I realized no matter where he went someone was getting shipped. I also know it makes no sense that I am kinda upset about this. I guess I was hoping for an underdog team to land him. Tis status quo with all teams and players to want to be where it will benefit them...I am not that disillusioned
LeBron can still suck a tail pipe...
Selfish SOB was pretty strong...let's just go with a typical high profile professional player
I readily admit that I would have loved to have seen him go to an underdog team, but that is MY personal mentality. I always want the underdog to up a big dog.
I see your point, but for him, itmakes no sense to go to an under dog team, spend 3 years making them a solid team, and then go for a ring. His body won't last that long.
Manning did his time, though. He made an underdog team relevant and got the team a super bowl ring. I think he only has so much time left, so if he wants to win (and my guess is like most professional athletes he does), he offers way more to a team that is already partially there. It fits and makes more sense than going to a team that has a ton of work to do still, even if they land him.
I think his talent/skill/whatever is only going to reach a maximum benefit for a team that is already in a pretty good place - I guess that's what I'm saying. I don't think he'd be able to do much for some of the really bad teams - there's just not enough time.
I disagree with this - Tebow is not a good NFL quarterback, and I will be shocked (SHOCKED) if he is ever even average. He is slow in the pocket, inaccurate in his passes, and way too indecisive. He genuinely seems like a nice kid/role model, but he will never lead a team deep into the playoffs or to a Super Bowl.
Agreed.
Checking in from my corner where I've been sobbing over this news....
Not really but yea. Wanted him in TN. Denver was like last on my list of where I'd hoped he would land.
Boo.
Their o-line is very young, so there's that. Perhaps they'll grab up Jeff Saturday from free agency.
He's definitely not selfish for going to a team that has the mechanics basically in place for him to be able to win. He's already built a team, he's too old and good now to do that again - leave for for the younger guys.
I think Tebow should give up playing and become a sports psychologist or something - he could make bank helping players realize their full potential. That is where his strength is.
In the end, I think SF was just not a good organizational fit for him. There's no way Harbaugh would have been willing to turn over the offense to Manning the way Manning would have wanted.
I agree with this completely. Dude's 36 and coming back from a debilitating neck injury. That's not the right mix for going to, say, the Bungles to try and whip them into Super Bowl shape.
Plus you reach a point in your career where dragging everyone else up with you becomes too exhausting for the payoff.

Yup. Also, I think it's FOR love of the game that he wants another ring. He could be just out for a paycheck. Do we need to drag TO out of the woodwork to show you what a selfishass looks like copz?
I agree that it's because he loves the game that he's wanting another ring and wanting to compete. I think he wants to go out on his own terms and not on an injury - I'm sure he wants to go out on top, and I want to see that. Go Broncos, lol.
I bet Woody Paige is peeing his pants with glee - he's a UT grad and he lives in Denver? He's probably the person most excited about this. Can't wait for ATH today!
From one of my Denver friend's fb
BREAKING NEWS: Tim Tebow believes he is no longer a virgin, thinks he just got screwed by Elway!
Cops, I think you are being irrational with this one. If it was about the ring, he would have gone to the teams that had it stacked for him. If anything this choice makes me respect him more....because he picked a team not just based on raw talent and the fact but is doing it for a higher reason aka elway)
I do not see how this makes him selfish at all. At all.
Copz, I love thee but this was going to happen no matter where Manning ended up. I actually think he handled this whole thing about as well as possible without acting like a douchebag.
Not surprised about Peyton heading to Denver. He can have Denver. I'll keep the Manning who has more Superbowl rings (see: siggy photo).

<a href="http://www.thenest.com/?utm_source=ticker&utm_medium=HTML&utm_campaign=tickers" title="Home DWhile I'm all for underdogs as well, it doesn't really make sense for a real underdog team to go with an aging quarterback that only has a few years left, just in terms of long-term team building. Way better for those teams to get a bright shiny young quarterback with a bright future to build a team with.
