Are you a speed reader? (Link to quiz)

I'd like a redo - I got 444 words per minute, which puts me at your average college student level.  But I've always been an uber fast reader; I read the entire Dragon Tattoo series in 2 weeks.

Try it out, if you have a hankering:

  • I got 404- which was a probably pretty accurate since my toddler was squirming on me, and I usually have lots of distractions while reading. I was more proud that I got the 3 questions right, lol.

  • I guess I am not, I got 297.  I did get all 3 answers correct!
  • 404 and to be honest, I don't really know what I read.

The world speed reading champion scares me. A lot.

  • 503

and here I thought I was a slow reader.

A big old middle finger to you, stupid Nest.
  • 686.  I did like the next page noting how fast you'd be able to finish certain books.
"Today, the mad scientist can't get a doomsday device, tomorrow it's the mad grad student. Where will it end?"
  • ooo... I took it a second time (almost same results) and it was from Alice in Wonderland. I need to search and see what the first test was from.

ETA: That was easy. It's from War of the Worlds.

484 and while I got all three questions right, I really didn't comprehend anything I read.  And I read quickly but I guess not that quickly.

  • I scored at college professor fastness (high 600s?), and I'm a college professor. Guess I chose the right profession?
  • 772 words per minute.  I guess faster than average but no LHC ;-)

  • Nope. But I didn't really need a test to tell me that. I was rather surprised to see I'm 43% faster than the national average.

  • 705, which I think was 170% above national average, around college professor level.

I have to say, though, it depends what I'm reading. I get bogged down by some books, and not always the ones I expect.

    my read shelf:
Meredith's book recommendations, liked quotes, book clubs, book trivia, book lists (read shelf)

  • You read 1,126 words per minute.
That makes you 350% faster than the national average.

That's fairly accurate cause I did read some of those books in the time they said (e.g. Harry Potter Book #1 in 1 hour, Wuthering Heights in 1 1/2 hours).

Of course, these days I'm lucky to get 15 minutes of uninterrupted reading time....

  • You read 1, 246 words per minutes. That makes you 398% faster than the national average.

You read 1,495 words per minute.
That makes you 498% faster than the national average.

I do read really fast, and always have.  I did some speed reader test when I was in 5th grade, but my memories of the whole thing are really vague.  When I'm on a reading kick, I can read several books a week.  Sometimes I'll read a book in an evening, depending on what it is and how interested I am.  I'm also able to tune basically anything out if I want to read, which is why I have to be careful about reading when I'm with the kids or the kids are up.  I don't want to ignore them and tune them out so I can read (well, not all the time...).

    I'll take it.

  • 859 before I've fully woken up.  Good enough for my pride.  I'd be curious to see if it changes once my coffee is brewed.

Sometimes I try to read more slowly b/c I get all sad when a good book is over.  However, reading fast allowed me to get through some pretty boring textbooks.

  • You read 890 words per minute.

Not too bad. My Kindle orders page definitely reflects the speed at which I read--I tend to read one average sized novel (300-400pages) a day on my commute (about 90min roundtrip).  I'm going to read Atlas Shrugged again this week, I think I'll keep track of how long it takes.
