Because ya'll think 32704.Helper makes shiit up. I'm watching live streaming TN House Education meeting and there is discussion of abstinence only education. The legislator states why we need abstinence only education because "It's like burning leaves. See, you think it's not a big deal and before you know it the fire gets away from you. You get the hose to put out the fire but you still need to call the fire department. See, this is what it's like for kids. We don't tell them that abstinence is the way ..." at that point I just yelled FFS at my computer monitor.
So, after kids find out that (as my H would say) pleasure fucckings is fun and feels good because feeling good makes you feel good, you shouldn't have sexy time at all. Jesus H. Christ. Oh and the bill passed.
*headdesk*
"There's a very simple test to see if something is racist. Just go to a heavily populated black area, and do the thing that you think isn't racist, and see if you live through it." ~ Reeve on the Clearly Racist Re-Nig Bumper Sticker and its Creator.
Re: Why Do I Live Here - Nitaw's Rendition
I have to tell you about this.
I live in Baton Rouge, which is its own steaming pile of shiit. Highest rate of HIV infection in the country, top 5 murder rate, public schools are terrible, whatever. So I went to a pottery class and we were introducing ourselves and I told some people I moved here after college and they asked where I was from. I told them Memphis and they all went "Oh my god, why would you move here? Are you going back? Are you crazy?"
Now, I still consider Memphis home and I love it, so yes, I'm crazy. But did these biddies think I said Connecticut or something? Have they heard of Memphis?
we all fall down sometimes
brass and ballet flats
I've been to Memphis twice and my head still spins when I think about it. We saw things in Memphis that I never imagined I'd see in my life. Crazy.
ECU -you watched the news didn't you? LOL Or you ended up in the 'hood. There are days when I just can't wrap my head around the foolishness.
Last week during Spring Break, there were a ton of kids downtown just assaulting randomn people. No rhyme or reason. *smh* The police figured out that it stemmed from a FB and/or text that told folks to come downtown to start a ruckus. Much like the zoo incident last year where the police were called in on the Free Day because of craziness.
But these legislators, lord help. I wasn't even following this bill. I was trying to get info on a hot button bill regarding municipal school districts.
Nitaw-
they are going to stream the abortion publishing bill too... ugh
Above Us Only Sky
Maybe both? Definitely watched the news and I feel like there was a murder like every day on the same block.
Of course, that block was near Graceland or the stadium (we were there for the Liberty Bowl) so we were driving exactly where the news was saying people were shot.
It was crazy! And a human pooped on the sidewalk on Beale St. Human poo on sidewalk. :mind blown:
A very interesting experience
Yep. In fact, that should be on right now.
Link if anyone is interested. It's HB3808 by Hill.

Ah... the South.
Call me Kat =^..^=
I had lunch with Nitaw in Memphis once. It was tasty, but I'm good too :-)
Above Us Only Sky
I left Nastyville 12 years ago and have been back twice for brief brief drivethru visits. I'm good on that city, too. LOL!
I actually liked Oakland when I visited my cousin at Mills.
Above Us Only Sky
Mesh - my co-worker might take issue with this considering she is from Oakland and all. LOL I like to tease her that she is really straight outta Compton. But, yeah, pretty much. *sigh*
::rocks in corner, chanting::
no state income tax, great weather
no state income tax, great weather
no state income tax, great weather, moonshine
Hey, I live in Richmond. When we have a murder, it's barely a blurb on tv news with a map. At least when it's Oakland they send someone to stand outside and report on it live.
LOL. Great weather MINUS tornadoes.
It's been glorious this week. And top it off with this weather for Naomi's birthday party on Sunday ...
If you want to see racial dynamics played out in Memphis, then read everything related to the current school consolidation debate. Here is just a couple articles to get you started:

Outside of the school issue, the county commission couldn't agree on a new redistricting plan because it wasn't racially balanced, diluted the black vote, yadda, yadda. It's craziness. In neighborhoods, you can tell the racial divide. My favorite example is a neighborhood right near my office. One street separates a community of 500K+ homes from homes in disrepair and worth barely 30K.
