You're not really Catholic, according to him. HTH
From a fox news interview.
RIOS: You are doing very well among evangelicals, not so well among Catholics. I have my own theory about that, but I want to know what yours is this.
SANTORUM: I really wish I could tell you. I think the bottom line is that we do well among people who take their faith seriously, and as you know just like some Protestants, some Protestants are not church going, they are folks who identify with a particular religion but don?t necessarily practice that from the standpoint of going to church and the like, and I think, you know, with folks who do practice their religion more ardently I tend to do well.

Re: Any Catholics here not support Santorum?
What a joke... Catholics are notoriously all over the map.
That is the main reason I stay in the religion. I distinctly beleive in Jesus... but beyond that, I want a non-judgemental church that does not keep track of who comes on what sunday, pesters you about about how much you give or expects tithing, and generally lets you live (or not) your faith as you see fit.
If you talk to 100 Catholics... you will get 100 opinions from my experience.
Signed... a catholic:) LOL
Dear Rick,
Every time you open your mouth, Romney and Obama cream themselves.
Signed,
A Liberal Catholic who goes to Mass every Sunday and Votes her Conscience.
Yes,I'm smiling...I'm a marathoner!

I just shot milk out of my nose. I totally agree!

This is actually making me really angry for some reason. My grandmother is a devout Catholic - 10 kids, for most of her life lived right down the block from the church (and bought that house for years, spent a year living and volunteering with nuns, and on and on. Now, I haven't talked to her about this race yet, but I know without even asking that she would never support Santorum. F*ck him.
So now the Protestants aren't Christian enough for him, too?
I take my faith very seriously, and Rick ain't doing so well with me. But then, I "worship" one of those fake Gods, so I should probably just leave Amurica and go live with the rest of the terrorists.
I'm making a list of people that he has told to shove off:
1. Blahh People
2. People who speak Spanish
3. Women
4. Non-Christians
5. Catholics who don't like him
6. The unemployed
Are you Buddhist?
I think it's Santorum who doesn't take his faith seriously and has no idea what being Catholic means.
signed,
cradle to grave Catholic, in a family full of Catholics, where my mother, the Republican, is the rebel - no one else would dare vote R according to my grandpa.
I know that's my point. Catholics don't
or since we are all very different, I should say many do not.
Per the Catechism:
Assuming that the guilty party's identity and responsibility have been fully determined, the traditional teaching of the Church does not exclude recourse to the death penalty, if this is the only possible way of effectively defending human lives against the unjust aggressor.
If, however, non-lethal means are sufficient to defend and protect people's safety from the aggressor, authority will limit itself to such means, as these are more in keeping with the concrete conditions of the common good and more in conformity to the dignity of the human person.
Today, in fact, as a consequence of the possibilities which the state has for effectively preventing crime, by rendering one who has committed an offense incapable of doing harm - without definitely taking away from him the possibility of redeeming himself - the cases in which the execution of the offender is an absolute necessity "are very rare, if not practically nonexistent."68
Technically, a Catholic is not necessarily going against Catholic teaching if he/she agrees with the use of the death penalty. However, it does appear that there has to be a good reason to believe that in any given case it is the only way to protect others. I'm not sure what Santorum's thoughts are on this.
And as for being Catholic and not supporting him, the only way I would even consider voting for him is if he gets the nomination (ie. if I had a choice between Republicans I wouldn't vote for him). However, I'd much rather see Romney get the nom.
I'm glad you're honest. But I'd be lying if I claimed not to consider you a right wing extremist as a result of the quote above. To pick Santorum over Obama astounds me.
That made me smile.
I'm just pointing out that it's not as black and white as Church teaching on abortion. I happen to be against the death penalty, but I have heard the argument that life without parole really isn't life without parole or that these criminals can be a danger to others even while incarcerated.
I might have said otherwise before the birth control mandate against religious organizations.
ETA: Actually, I probably would have said otherwise. And also, I only said I'd consider it. I would probably do anything but vote for Obama.
