If you've read The Hunger Games please come in. I have a question.

I've heard so many people taking about The Hunger Games and I'm thinking about reading the books but I'm not sure. This may sound really weird but I have a problem with any sort of a execution scene in books and movies. Even if it's just something like lethal injection being implied and nothing is even shown. I have to turn movies off all the time. Is there any sort of execution scene in the books? I've heard it has graphic death scenes and that's fine as long as they aren't execution style. I'd hate to waste money on a book that I'm not able to finish.

  • If you have amazon prime you can borrow it for free :)

But, yeah, there's some cold blooded killing.  It might get to you.  I know I cried at one.

  • There's a scene like that in the second book.

The rest of the violence is really intense and graphic, but not execution style. The execution I'm thinking of is probably the tamest of all the deaths.

  • I can't think of any particular outright execution scene... until the 3rd book.  There is at least one alluded to in the second book I think... but I'm drawing a blank on an actual scene where they describe an execution.

Although some of the killings in the actual Hunger Games are pretty bad so you might not want to read it.

  • Thanks ladies. It sounds like I need to pass on the books.

  • Pretty much agree w/ PPs, there wasn't really any execution scenes that come to memory, but I mean the book is about 24 people going into an arena with only one coming out, so there are alot of deaths described. But there is so much more to the book that the author doesn't make it horrifying or gorey.

I just saw the movie last night and there were some fight/death scenes, but again it stayed pretty true to the books and it wasn't horrible or gorey. The actual plot and story surrounding kind of drowns out those scenes for me.

Maybe you could just start it and if anything gets to much just put it down! But I highly recommend the series!

  • If you have real issues with a particular thing like this, I highly recommend the website Kids In Mind.

They provide summaries of sex, violence, profanity, and substance use in movies. It's kind of a bland summary (and one that surprisingly doesn't really spoil as much as you'd think), but it outlines each and every instance of each, including what you'd think would be pretty innocuous, like this (under sex/nudity):

A man asks a young man if there is a special girl at home and the young man talks about having a crush on someone.

The full summary of The Hunger Games is here:

Thank you! This is so helpful and I will be using this site in the future. It looks like the movie at least would be fine. An example of a movie I wasn't able to handle was Cold Mountain. I'm fully aware that my issues don't make any sense, lol.

  • Don't feel bad. I found out there is a bad scene with a cat in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, so now I'll never see it. I cannot handle cat cruelty.

There is actually a cat in The Hunger Games, and I am still reading the third book. I am terrified something will happen to this cat.

I hate cat cruelty as well.  I don't want to spoil anything here, but I will say that I loved the kitty the HG and loved him even more when I finished.
