I'm going to make one of these over the next few weeks. I'm thinking of the potential for a power grid failure. What should I put in it?
Re: Zombie Apocalypse kits
The CDC has some suggestions.
No, really.

I like the kits from Major Surplus--I have a backpack 72hr kit of theirs in my office.

You can get something similar at BB&B and use your 20% coupon
Shotgun
#4 Buckshot (lots)
Coleman Solar Panels (more is better) and batteries
Then get one of those disaster/emergency kits
and one of these water filters
I don't know why I find this really funny, but I do.
The one realization I've come to is that people suck and if you can't defend yourself and your survival supplies (food/water/shelter/meds) then you're not going to last.
This assumes long term survival situation (EMP, pandemic, massive quake, etc)
This is the most awesome thing I have ever seen. I love it when the government has a well-educated sense of humor.
Plus, this is really helpful.
Michael Grossman and Reba McEntire in Tremors set fine examples here. Also, Graboids is a decent term for Zombies, too!
I'm trying to plan for like a 3 week issue. I'm thinking anything else, I've got two small kids and we won't make it. I'd rather die in a nuclear holocaust than as a result of the subsequent radiation poisoning. If something lasts for more than a month, women and children will be too vulnerable and our stuff would just be taken away from us anyway. But something like a power grid failure or an electronic banking system collapse, that wouldn't last more than a month and a kit would be appropriate for that.
Also, fwck my bosses for contributing to my anxiety disorder with this bullshit.
Can we come to your house when the zombies come? I'll be well stocked and willing to exchange food and service for protection and beer.
Of course - just make sure to bring Baby Liu so she and A can continue the species and all.
i think my kit needs to include some KEY addresses and various routes to said addresses.
Deal!
