Re: Confirmed: Geraldo Rivera is dumb.

  • "Why does a black guy wearing a hoodie = OMG HIDE YER KIDS HIDE YER WIFE!!! while Girly McWhiterson wearing a hoodie doesn't?"

I *am* Girly McWhiterson--a middle aged, fat, white-ass woman.  I wear a hoodie on my way to the gym nearly every morning during the winter months.  It has never crossed my mind that it might be perceived as a threatening article of clothing to anyone.  Why?  Oh yeah, because I'm Girly McWhiterson!  And the unfairness of that makes me boil with rage.

This whole situation makes me do the ugly cry.  The fact that it happened at all, that racist, murdering ass-hole still walking free, the fact that black parents still have to fear for their childrens' safety in this day and age, that black kids are now supposed to dress in a way non-threatening to white, racist ass-holes...all of it just infuriates me and makes me feel so helpless and powerless to change anything.  It is depressing beyond belief to realize that this is where we are in 2012.

So all blahhhhh boys have to dress like Carlton Banks to avoid getting shot?

Like the PP said, it's like telling rape victims not to dress provocatively. This is not how shiit should work - we should not be pandering to the assh0les of the world.

    And always dance like Carlton.

I actually have wondered whether some of the "nerd chic" / super-preppy fashion that's become popular with hip-hop stars and basketball players has some roots in this. There was a fashion article somewhere about how the "Carlton Banks" look is getting more popular with young black men... I wonder if it's a sort of semi-conscious effort to throw stereotypes on their heads.. like, really, are you still going to feel threatened by me in my sweater vest and nerd glasses?

I admit, I would cross the street if I saw someone coming my way doing that.  Of course, I'd do that no matter who they were or what they were wearing, so there's that...

Why don't people get away with killing teens wearing doc martens with red laces?  Those shooters ALWAYS get in trouble!

I wonder if Zimmerman would have shot this guy:

a white dude with a shaved head and wearing black/combat boots/etc. makes me uncomfortable.
