Re: Wait, where is the Mad Men thread?

  • - no Betty b/c JJ was knocked up. She comes later.

    - hate Megan. Was hoping she would fling herself off the balcony.

    - but it seems Don has found the wife/mom/whore/career gal/everywoman in Megan. The anti betty. So perhaps Megan is here to stay. Puke.

    - Pete and Don have switched places.

    - Joan's baby was not cute.

    - bean ballet was a terrible idea.

    - I want Paul Kinsey back!!!!!

    - loved seeing the different offices and how they reflect their inhabitants. Like Harry Cranes Victorian and stodgy desk.

I generally liked it but there was a little too much Megan.  I was fine at first seeing her in the morning at their apartment, but then it was Megan at the office, Megan working with Peggy, Megan and the party, Megan Megan Megan.  I'm guessing there is a reason here but too much IMO.   I loved seeing Joan and the baby and I think it will be interesting to see a "working mom" perspective from that day and age.  Especially since she's married *gasp* to a doctor and shouldn't have to work!! (sarcastic - what others would be thinking in that era)  Loved the Pete and the office storyline.  I'm more intrigued about the Trudy situation too...  She looked horrendous at home but cleaned up nicely for the party.  I really enjoyed the last scene where they were accepting resumes..interested to see how they work that out.

I actually really liked getting to know Megan better. We knew so little about her last season. I think she and Don "work" together. The party was obviously somewhat disasterous (in terms of their relationship) but in general, they seem to have similar outlooks on life, in a way. They have the great apartment right in Manhattan, which is so "them." Megan is great with his kids (per last season), but freaked a bit when everyone basically said, "you're next!" when Joan came in the office. Good as a stepmom, but not wanting to be the typical suburban mother and wife that Betty is.

I missed Betty, and I can't wait to see what's going on with her next week.

I'm also feeling more sympathetic towards Pete Campbell. Dammit!

I loved the resume collection at the end.

I think my favorite scene was when Roger was trying to convince Harry to switch offices with Pete. "Why do you carry so much cash?" "This is every month, right?" "You owe me." "No, I don't owe you, that's the point, this is a business transaction." Roger just steals every scene he's in. Love him.

I can't believe Peggy is still dating whatshisname though. I don't like him.

There were 2 occassions in last night's episode where I really thought she would. And one was right after the party when she was standing on the balcony. I didn't expect them to show it, but I expected that the next day they would hear the news at the office.

  • The thing I thought was the most interesting about Megan (and I really was rooting for her last season, so I hope they kind of do something more with her than they seem to be doing right now) was her relationship with Peggy.  She's apparently jealous of Joan (are we supposed to think that, or is that just a misunderstanding on Joan's part?), but she looks to Peggy as a "friend" (or is it the old, "keep your friends close and your enemies closer"?)

I don't want Don and Peggy to end up together like some kind of Sam and Diane, but Peggy obviously knows Don better than Megan which should make Megan really uncomfortable.  I guess I just don't really understand the dynamic between Megan, Don, and Peggy now.  At the end of last season, even with Megan's engagement, Don and Peggy were close. They seemed to have a lot in common even if it wasn't sexual attraction.  Now, they're rarely even in the same room together and when they are, he's just irritated with her.

Are we supposed to think something happened in the 8 mos...

And, wait, 8 mos is an awfully short fwcking period of time for someone whose family lives in Canada (Megan) to plan a Manhattan wedding and get married.

Okay, I have a lot of questions.  I need more information filled in.

  • I like that Megan has a little freak in her.  There is no other way to keep a man like Don.  And it must be working because she's got him feenin' like a Jodeci song.  He just left work when he found out she left....not one other woman he would have done that for.

Refresh my memory...does Pete now about Peggy's baby?? I forgot. He does, right?

On a semi-related note, I've had You Don't Have to Say You Love Me stuck in my head all night and day, and A adores my singing.

At least it's not Zou Bisou Bisou...

(I think I am going to regret having said that...)

  • We watched it mostly real-time too (so no FF on DVR) and had to sit through the commercials, which were surprisingly good.  How hilarious were the Clorox ones??  DH and I both LOL at the 2 I remember seeing (the nose wipe and the kid pooping his pants)
    Two kids..5 and 2
