Don't allow me to read anymore Hunger Games movie posts! My blood pressure is starting to rise... about a fooking movie!
Sometimes I think people are too stupid to read certain books, watch certain movies or certain shows... and I think this is one of those times.

I heard the first book is awesome, the second less so and the third is kind of terrible (because the author could take her sweet time writing the first, got more harried from being under contract for the second and then it blew up so she was under lots of pressure to write the third).
I haven't read them though. I've heard the movie is way better anyway.

I honestly think you're better off seeing the movie after the book. To me, the movie was FOR the people who are fans of the books. I went with only people who read the books... so I'm not sure what the experience of someone who hadn't read the books would be.
Like for example, there is a character in the book called Foxface. In the movie, you are able to pick out Foxface... you know who she is, you know what her story is. But in the movie... they only call her by her name once. So although you are referring to her in your head as Foxface the entire time, someone who's never read the books would only know her name was Foxface toward the very end.
But read the books, you'll really enjoy them. H is currently obsessed with them... and he fought me about reading them for a year. The other day he informed me that they're his favorite books EVER! LOL!

Yeah book first. It helps you piece the movie together better. My husband enjoyed the movie, but was slightly confused at some points. So I explained them to him later.
Like he was really confused as to why Katniss wanted to destroy all of the supplies. It's like they just kind of automatically assumed that you'd know that the careers were from the wealthy districts.
More like Survivor meets Big Brother, but with teenagers, and entire states worth of starving people depending on them to win instead of just a cash prize. And tyrranical government.
Interesting. That is not at all what I was thinking.
EVER? He is dead to me.
Why? Because his favorite books ever aren't Harry Potter? If that's the case, I'm dead to you too because I love Harry Potter, but they're not my favorite books ever. The Hunger Games beats Harry Potter... because I love dystopian societies.

Muddled-
The citizens of the country rise up and try to overthrow the government. The government wins. In punishment, the government breaks up the rest of the country into 12 districts. Those 12 districts are each responsible for an industry (agricultural, electrical, mining, etc). The people in those districts are poor and starving- while "The Capitol" is full of wealth and affluence.
Every year, the government picks 2 kids (1 boy and 1 girl) from each of the 12 districts to go into an "arena" and fight to the death. Only one person comes out... and then that person gets enough food to feed their family. This is the Capitol's way of reminding the districts that they're under their thumb and to discourage another uprising.
I don't liken it to Big Brother and Survivor because reality tv is effing ridiculous... it's more The Giver, 1984 and A Brave New World.
