How would you style this dress for a wedding? PIP

Evening wedding in April. DH is the best man and wearing a traditional tux. I bought the below dress, which looks great on, but I kind of want to funk it up a bit. I'd consider myself an edgier dresser.

How would you style it? I have a short torso, so belts usually don't look great on me. I'm also likely going to hem it a bit as the length looks a little too old for me; I prefer slightly above the knee.

ETA: it looks purple in the photo (and online!) but it's actually a bright cobalt blue. I have auburn hair and fair skin if that makes a difference.

  • I definitely wouldn't do a belt with that dress. No way. It's gorgeous, and that color is amazing!

I would do gold heels and some statement earrings. With that neckline I wouldn't do a necklace.

I was thinking the same thing.  I'd do some bangles if you are comfortable with them and a fun evening bag.  I have a black satin one with gold trim where almost every square inch is covered in tiny natural stones and beach glass.  It would go great with that.
  • You could add a fancy scarf or pashmina over your shoulders and a great clutch to tuck under your arm.

    Completely agree. Love those earrings

  • What a pretty dress!

  • Love the earrings.  I would also add a printed or beaded clutch and strappy heels in black or gold.
  • Just to be difficult, let's say I find those earrings a tad boring, and strappy heels in any metallic don't inspire me. Any other ideas?

Let's say, I'd wear shoes like this:

My husband would be afraid of those.

Plus...weddings usually mean drunk people, and those seem like a bad idea around drunk people.

    Plus, they're fug.

I like both of these suggestions.

    It was a style idea.

I'd say you're a girl after my own heart!  ;)  Find some silver earrings and a Linz Shelton bag.  Add a stack of bangles half way up your arm in silver and gunmetal.  You could always chalk some blue or teal in your hair too.  I think they could work well with the drunks since they'd keep them at a distance!

The leopard and black are on sale at Zappos, though the nude are especially awesome.

ETA: I think you should post more often. Big Smile

  • I have to agree with Kore and FCG that those pumps in the nude instead of leather would be great, with some bangles and dangly earrings.

I love those pumps in the black leather and would wear them all the time.

or the Lorissa peep-toes in gold with gold accessories. I love gold and cobalt and in fact, am wearing a cobalt dress with gold accessories for an upcoming wedding as well.

  • I would funk or edge it up with my clutch and jewelry (like a cool ring or bracelet).  The dress is very traditional and I'd keep the shoes simple.  I'd think it would look a little odd to wear funky or edgy shoes with this dress and I love me some funk.

I will!  I actually have a Linz Shelton in my closet.  They are the best bar bag ever since you can cuff them to you.
  • I'm with mav on this one.

Ditto.  *Maybe* an animal-print shoe or bold jewelry of some sort, but I don't think that dress can do edgy.  If you want to do edgy, I'd wear a different dress.

  • Those Sam Edelman pumps are NOT fug. I've been lusting after them forever, but just can't spend that much on shoes right now. I think the black or nude pumps would look awesome! Look at 6pm.com. They have them and they're pretty decently priced. I like the peep toe version.

That is easily the 25th dress I've tried on. The dress is staying! lol

I'll make the dress do edgy. I'll prove you haters all wrong! Cool

  • Love the dress!!!

  • Since it's a jewel tone, I'd do jewel tones all over.  Emerald, yellow, even red. I'd do a different one for shoes, clutch, and earrings.

I'm no hater, it's a very pretty dress and that color is so luxe and gorgeous.

I would love to see the finalized outfit, so if you don't mind, can you post it post-wedding?  I'm always open to new ideas.  ::smiley face with a rainbow behind my head::
