Sleeping on international flights

Re: Sleeping on international flights

  • I'm not one to drink or take drugs (sleeping pills, in this case) and personally wouldn't worry about it too much. Like others have said, I'd make sure to be equipped with some basic necessities (eye mask, ear plugs, blanket, pillow etc.) that can help you zone out and stay comfy.
  • No matter how hard I try, I can't sleep on airplanes. I am too uncomfortable.  I tend to just relax as much as I can, get as comfortable as I can, and allow my body to relax.  The one time I took a sleeping pill, I didn't sleep and was a moody, horrible nightmare the next day at our destination. My husband threatened to leave me in the hotel room. Stick out tongue  You have to do what works for you. Relaxing and zoning out works well for me.

  • I take an ambien for long flights that I want to sleep on.  It's the only time I take sleeping pills.  When I've asked for the prescription, I've never had a doctor bat a lash about it.

I have other friends who take benadryl.

I also use noise-cancelling headphones and a neck pillow.

If this is something he's really concerned about, he should definitely chat with his doctor about it.

  • I don't have an issue sleeping (anywhere, anytime).

My husband always takes Tylenol PM which helps him dose off...

  • H and I take melatonin pills before long flights.  They're natural so you don't feel like you're taking extra drugs just because.

And I second the alcohol part...a glass or two of wine and I'd be out!
