Apologies To The Parents I Judged Four Years Ago
Re: Apologies To The Parents I Judged Four Years Ago
Really? You think a side eye is going to solve that problem? Clearly a situation like that is the product of a lack of education and resources, and probably a lifetime of poor eating, initiated in a prior generation. That doesn't make me judgey, it makes me sad.
I am a runner, knitter, scientist, DE-IVF veteran, and stage III colon cancer survivor.
I know I had rude opinions before I had a kid. I literally don't remember any opinions I had, about anything, the first few months of my son's life; I was that exhausted.
I never saw myself as a confrontational person, but I will say I got ghetto on a kid and his mom yesterday at a park when said kid (who was taller than I am) knocked my kid off the steps to the slide and he almost fell two stories. See? This is why you hover. So I used to totally judge pushy parents but you know what? I am now THAT parent.
Edited: You know what? I'm going to address the restaurant thing. What you complainers don't know is that this MAY be the only meal mom/dad have gotten all day. Or even in a few days. It may be the first chance they've had to eat something that isn't a cracker in a week. Sometimes a kid freaks out at a restaurant and sometimes you are so hungry you literally cannot think straight until you get a damn handful of fries down your throat before you can appropriately deal with your child so seriously, endure the screaming childfor 15 minutes and retreat to the peace and quiet of your flucking car and your home that isn't littered with toy cars and settle down. Noise happens. It turns out nobody ever died because their precious TGI Friday's appetizer plate came with a side of screaming toddler at the table next to you.
I'm so sick of the public judgment bullshit.
My breaking point came at the grocery store about a week after my dad died. My mom, toddler and I were shopping together - as much to get both of them out of the house as to get food. We're all doing what we can to keep it together but were a little distracted. We accidentally got into the 9 items or less line. When it was pointed out we switched lines, no problem. Yet this *** felt the need to get out of her other line and go over to the cashier to complain about us. The baby wasn't even crying, she just felt the need to roll her eyes and the fact we came into the store with a toddler. I could have shived her.
