Let's have a show of hands

of how many P&CE'rs think that George Zimmerman will ever see the inside of a courtroom, let alone jail time.

I have decided that with all the evidence jr. sleuths are finding right now that if the police/FBI (given their resources) had wanted to arrest him he would have been by now.

I think he is in the clear and it makes me want to punch things.

Re: Let's have a show of hands

  • Did I read his father was a judge or court magistrate?  That has more to do with his non arrest, I'd imagine that most other factors.

  • I don't think he will see a courtroom and if he does there will be no jail-time. I would also like to request the number of folks surprised by this raise your hands. I am not suprised at all. Remember this is a society where a two time Oscar winner is not able to get a cab in his own hometown. The western world thinks Black people aren't sh!t and that's the truth.

I was kinda hoping someone would go there.  I had the realization last night that if you are a black male in this country you are automatically guilty/up to no good/and inferior.  It kept me up all night.

I live in podunk USA and while I am sure we are not totally immune from racism I am 100% sure I have never really seen it other than in the news or stories etc.

  • I think eventually the feds will charge him.
  • I think white people couldn't handle the guilt of the whole thing, so they will keep searching for any little kernel of misinformation or distraction to get back to the narrative that the black kid was up to no good.

  • I think he will have to be charged now that the feds are involved. Can we also have a show of hands: who thinks he'll never make it to court because he won't live that long? He has a mile-wide target on his back.

I think he'll be charged. The public pressure will force the issue and I think prosecutors have enough evidence to at least bring it to trial. What a jury will decide given the aweful law is another story.

Police and the judicial system fail everyday. Police just released some of the evidence they were holding onto in the Powell case - more than enough to at least arrest the guy. However they were waiting, and because they were waiting a judge allowed him visitation. Two small boys were murdered as a result. I get the outrage in the Travon case - I share in that outrage. I do think it's interesting though that stories like the Powell case went away really fast. The public will keep the Travon story going until something is done imo, and that will happen because of the element of racism involved in the case.

The race element is definitely why we're still talking about it, but it differs from the Powell case in that there is a faulty law here that needs to change. I hope the attitudes of the masses can shift from wanting vengeance from GZ to wanting a serious evaluation of this law. I didn't even know my state and others had Stand Your Ground laws until this case, and I'm feeling pretty passionate about contacting my legislators about it. GZ committed a heinous act, but the legal system ultimately failed Trayvon here.

Sadly, in a lot of cases LE's hands also get tied up because you are sometimes dealing with a prosecutor who demands a case wrapped up with a silver bow before they will proceed with the case.  The Powell case makes me just as enraged.

  • I'm not familiar enough with your judicial system to make a well-informed comment, but it does seem like WAY too much time has passed where an arrest could have been made and hasnt.

  • He will not be convicted because there will be a lack of evidence due to the crappy job done by the police at the time of the crime.  If he even sees the inside of a courtroom it will be soley to save face, not because they actually think a conviction will happen.

  • I am sure we will see an arrest, but not before they have enough to ensure a conviction.

What is sad is that the numbers of black on black crime (which is the highest, followed by black on white with white on black the lowest) is totally ignored.

This is my hope. I am an optimist. I have to believe something will happen.

I guess I don't understand what that completely separate issue has to do with the situation that transpired in Florida.  It continues to be this red herring that is thrown out there and quite frankly it is annoying as hell.  If you can connect the dots for me as to why black on black crime makes this particular situation okay, or if you can explain to me why the stats of white on black crime makes this situation okay, then maybe there is something worthwhile to discuss.  If you and others who constantly bring this crap up can't, then can we get back to the situation at hand?

  • He'll probably get extra famous from any hearing that goes on and write a book on it and get rich.

  • Nothing will come of it, unfortunately.

Who ignores it? The Media? Black people? White people? Western society as a whole? Who are you speaking about?

ETA: I understand now this was a talking point on Hannity. Sisgual I know you like to stir the pot and I mainly laugh but honestly don't even go there with us. Angry

Last time I posted something on black-on-black crime someone got all uppity about it making Chicago look bad because it only happens in those areas where "we" don't go anyways.  To which I replied, she may not go, but my family live in those areas so yes it concerns me.

My point is that the way black-on-black crime has been framed and reported on by the media and judged and handled by politicians is an effin disgrace, but please don't think that black people don't care about it.  Maybe we deal with it on our own, like we do a lot of other stuff, because we know a sizeable portion of white America doesn't give a shyt.

Exactly - becaue of this horrible law, there will be no silver bow on the Zimmerman case. I really think if you take the race issue out of this case (which takes away a lot of the public outrage), it gets swept under the carpet like many other tragic cases. However, I don't think that will happen here. It's cruel irony when you think about it - the murder happened likely because of at least an element of racism, but it is that issue that will likely give the victim an attempt at justice, as compared to many other cases that eventually just fade away.

When that judge here in Atlanta asked all the white people to leave the Courtroom, told the defendants he was tired of seeing only black people being brought in his courtroom and asked them to get their acts together, people raised all sorts of hell. I gave him a standing ovation.

  • I wonder where this country would be if people had shrugged off Emmitt Till's death because "no one cares about black folks riding in the back of the bus."

They're interconnected, dumbasses! Just like Trayvon Martin's death IS interconnected with the problem of black on black crime. FWIW, I find the white folks handwringing about black on black crime to be fuuking ridiculous anyway. It's just a convienient way of saying, "well, them darkies are always getting into trouble" while covering it with a nice blanket of fake concern.

  • I think he'll be charged because of the public pressure most of all, but the police investigation (or lack thereof) makes a conviction problematic.  At least that's my guess.

  • I think he'll be charged.  I'm not sure there's enough evidence for a conviction, the way things have been handled.

  • I think he will be charged, but he will walk free.

Then, Jack Ruby-style, someone will gun him down as he talks to the media outside the courthouse.  That someone will also walk free and I won't give a rat's ass about that.
