Let's have a show of hands
Re: Let's have a show of hands
I want to make out with cookie, mer and hab right now.
I think he'll be arrested and tried. I seriously doubt he'll be convicted. I do think there's a good chance he will meet a Jack Ruby-esque ending.
That's the thing. If he goes free, I'm not at all sure something here won't burn. We riot when we win football games.
I can't even grasp the idiocy and left field bullsh!t sisu just laid out. Seriously. As if black on black crime isn't a systematic result of slavery and racism anyway.
I don't know how this guy is going to live. Honestly. If he doesn't get charged, I wonder if he'll be under protective custody for the rest of his life.
Zuma Zoom
All of this.
YES I THINK HE DESERVED TO DIE AND I HOPE HE BURNS IN HELL!
The only time people like this care about black on black crime is when a white person kills a black person and they can say "But black people kill black people too! Actually more!"
We live in a racist society.
I cannot wrap my head around this.
Copz, dear, you know we are post-racial. If you just go around the corner you'll find the Post-Racial Utopian Society.
Here, let this lead the way ...
I love this movie so much.
I agree with the "he'll get arrested, won't be convicted, Jack Ruby ending" people.
Copz, please scoot over to make room for one more in your cave. Thanks.
I think he will see the inside of a courtroom because the political pressure to actually bring charges and have a trial will be too great. I do NOT think he will ever serve jail time because there is not enough admissible evidence to convict him. It's going to be the same as the OJ trial with a bunch of jurors saying, "I think he's probably guilty, but the State didn't prove their case; they didn't met the burden." Of course, their failure to meet the burden is a direct result of the same sort of racism and ineptness that led to the kid's death to begin with.
DH and I were talking about this yesterday. I think there will be at least one trial (one State and one Federal under the hate crimes statute) and then a civil wrongful death trial which will finally result in a guilty verdict, but won't mean much because I'm guessing Zimmerman doesn't have many assets other than that wicked two-tone members only jacket he's wearing in the "Repunzle's magic hair healed my wounds" PD video.
That should provide at least some consolation. Basically, this guy got a life sentence the minute he pulled the trigger.
This.
I think it's sad that black on black crime is ignored and I think you're right about that, that it largely is. I don't, however, think that conversation has anything to do with this one.
yes.
I think he will be arrested and tried, but I agree that he will serve no jail time. It is absolutely horrible to imagine.
I am really so shocked at how racist our society still is. I think it was the tweets about how no one cared that black Rue died in The Hunger Games that really got me. I'm grossed out that a new generation is coming out quite that racist. I had kind of hoped it would die with my parents' generation.
Seems not.
I know there is a lot of anger and hatred boiling over about this case, but I'm hoping most people just want him to go to jail.
Thug Life Yo. You Live by the Game. You Die by the Game.
On the Realz. I don't want Zimmerman killed. I want him to go The Fluck to Jail. Do NOT Pass Go. Do NOT Collect $200.
Definitely. Dark hole somewhere where not even the DP can get him out.
I've found as I get older I have moved from Malcolm X pre-Mecca and name change to MLK-ish.
I think in so many cases, it has been so subliminal. It has been ingrained on so many levels, yet people don't really recognize it until we get to this point. Any person of color trying to say this is just viewed as radical, race-card playing, angry black person.
I didn't really pay attention nearly as much as I do no, until watching Tim Wise on BookTV. He is absolutely remarkable. He lays it out so plainly, even to where he had an incident with his daughter who was watching Morgan Freeman play God in that movie Evan Almighty. His daughter was like 5 or something and knew that MF couldn't be God, because God wasn't black.
Also, why I am so outraged with the issues my sister is dealing with concerning my niece and her friend saying she's the wrong shade of brown. It is a big deal, it is prominent, people are just being blind to it. (not you specifically BB, just in general in this country)
Zuma Zoom
I'm not sure I want him to go to jail.
Before you tar and feather me, hear me out. I think there are people who would feel that the case is closed once Zimmerman is convicted and locked up. I'm not sure most people are willing to understand that this is about more than just one dude and one bad law.
Yes, the stand your ground law is nonsense but in my opinion it's only 25% of the issue at hand. Hell, even Trayvon's death is a small part of the issue at hand.
IDK, I don't think I'm articulating myself well. I think part of what made Emmitt Till's death a catalyst is that there wasn't a good resolution, that people could point to every aspect of that case including the aftermath and say, this is more than this one boy, more than this one court, more than this one state, more than this one region.
Click me, click me!
Please tell me this baby isn't conducting her own brown paper bag tests.
I get what you're saying. But I lack the confidence that we can come together and take this event and make it the catalyst for something bigger.
I may not word this right, so have some patience with me, and I'll hope I don't get flamed.
I think this would be a lot simpler if Zimmerman was a card carrying supremacist. Instead, I think we have a guy that made a series of choices based on racial bias. Those choices led to the death of an innocent kid, minding his own business. It's horrible and I think it makes a lot of us face some uncomfortable truths about our own biases of race and to a lesser extent, general appearances.
I think painting Zimmerman as this evil guy damages the bigger picture. I know a ton of George Zimmermans, and I bet y'all do, too. They're the guys that over embellish every story, the guys that look for ways to make themselves important, the self appointed hero, who really isn't needed or wanted. Usually, you just let them tell their stories, let them take on roles that really don't exist, because usually, they just keep rolling along and no one gets hurt.
My true anger lies with the SPD and the DA who seemed to decide that the white guy must've been provoked by the black thug kid (I'm talking their view, not mine). I have an expectation that those in the law have an even bigger responsibility to recognize the existence of racial bias and to ensure that they're over-correcting in their investigations.
I have to take Natalie to our mommy and me class now, but I'll be back in an hour to see if I really blew this.
<a href="http://www.thenest.com/?utm_source=ticker&utm_medium=HTML&utm_campaign=tickers" title="Home D
Sounds pretty good to me.
No you didn't blow it, because this is EXACTLY what black folks keep saying. When this country hears black people say That's Racist, they take the simple response of white folks are racist. That's not the issue. The issue is that we have this image of black males as savage, killing, gang-banging mobs out to kill and sell drugs to everyone. If you are minding your own business, you are a threat because the only place you belong is in the middle of the projects or on the street corner slangin' dope.
That's the problem, but no one wants to address it. Instead - look crime stats that show you do in fact kill people! Whee! *sigh*
Zuma Zoom
Oh boy. I didn't see this before so I want to address it since I did allude to it in my post about changes coming about. I don't think black on black crime and this are even related....I just was speaking to the passion carrying on/through/whatever adjective best fits. I hope I did not anger anyone here (or in my thread).
