Monday Confessions

I think I'm going to leave Schmidt in my siggy because he's pretty to look at.  Hell, I just might keep Schmidt as my login.  I hate that my maiden name is in my real sn.

I judge smokers.

I love that WC went off-board.  I love having a discussion board that isn't *quite* as public as it is on TN.  and we have control over lurkers who never post.

ok, who's next?  Lets start talking about something for the love.  I'm bored here!

Re: Monday Confessions

  • I confess that I want to talk about why I got an eyeroll for confessing that I judge women who don't attempt to breastfeed.  Is it really any different than judging smokers?  Some Niners have judged women for far more trivial things like clothing or hair.

I seriously don't want to start sh!t  I still support all mothers, whatever they do, as long as they're good mothers.  That's what's important.

  • I dont know half of the AEs.

The Amazon and The Nile Rivers scare the ever loving crap out of me.

I kinda wish we were going to a different restaurant tonight for wings purely because the one we are going to doesnt have Moscato.

I eyerolled your comment that "everyone knows breast milk is the superior food."

And  I think that a blanket judgment coming from you, who was BNOTB for a very long time, is very sanctimonious of you.

I do know, of course, this response will be met with, "You're not a mother so you don't understand and you should therefore shut up and have no opinion." So I digress.

ETA: FTR. I wasn't judging the opinion. You're entitled to it. I was rolling my eyes at the pretentiousness of the statement.

  • I need to start really party planning for Evie's birthday party next weekend.  I have food planned out but I need to get all the other things together... Decorations and games for the kids.

The more I feel overwhelmed, the more I don't do anything about it.

As of now, out of the 80 ppl we invited we have 53 coming so far... Which means at most we'll have 60 people coming (Haven't heard from 7 people yet..).  This is a good thing because I was estimating we would only have about 50 guests and was planning for that.

this is what i gathered as well.

Obviously, I'm all for breastfeeding. I did it for 9 months. But it was a stressful, not always pleasant experience, so I also understand that every mother has her reasons for doing it/not doing it, and I couldn't care less how their baby gets fed as long as it's getting fed.

There's too many babies/children out there who are NOT getting adequate nutrition for us to sit around judging mothers for how they choose to feed their child. We have bigger problems, people.

  • I too tend to get a little judgey when new Moms don't at least TRY to BF. If it doesn't work out, fine, but why not at least try?

In the end, it's a personal decision so whatever. I just don't understand the lack of trying all together.

  • I'm on a roll today.  Look what happens when my sn is no longer connected to my real name....

I judge women who don't cover up when breast feeding in public.  I have no problem with women BF in public, but I do not want or need to see your bewb.  Throw a blanket over than shiit.

Well, the thread was started to get some juicy talk going, so I put it out there.  And yes, I knew it'd probably ruffle some feathers, but I don't think the confession really is any different than judging smokers or anything else.  It's a public health issue, in my opinion.  And it's common knowledge that breast milk is superior to formula.  All formula feeding moms know that, they just choose whether or not they want to provide breastmilk or not. (With the exception of any issues that I previously mentioned that make breastfeeding not possible.) And Kyler gets a lot of formula these days, so it's not like I'm simply formula-bashing here.

And I wasn't going to tell you your opinion doesn't matter.  I don't think that at all, in fact.  I don't think my having been BNOTB matters though.  Most women are BNOTB at some point before they decide to have a baby. But when you make a decision to have a baby, and get pregnant, and then birth that baby, you want to try to do what's healthiest for it, and to me, that means at least giving your baby a shot at receiving breast milk. I had a friend who was very anti-breastfeeding while she was pregnant, but at a nurse's persuasion, she tried it out once her little girl was born.  She ended up nursing for 7 months.

  • I sort of judge some people on TB who talk about not having their kid have cake on their first birthday.  Ok, not sort of. I do. I 100% judge... unless there is* some circumstance when the baby can't eat it.

Seriously, it's a birthday party. Let the kid have their cake and eat it, too.

One of my coworkers was like that.  She wanted to make her son a little fruit and yogurt cup because he had never had any added sugars.  I told her if she was that worried about a once-a-year treat, to at least make him a real cake herself and just add less sugar to the cake and frosting.  I saw some cake smash pictures so it looks like he did get a cake of some sort, but I forgot to ask what was in it.

I'm getting Kyler a "real" cake.  More of it will end up on him than in him anyway.  And I can't wait to see the look on his face when he tastes frosting for the first time.  Mmm, frosting.

I'm up for mom of the year. Evie's had cake. Lots of cake actually. It doesn't help we have had tons of birthdays since she's been eating solids... but I find rude for me to eat cake in front of her and not at least give her a try.

She hasn't had an entire piece by any means, but at least a couple bites of whatever I'm having.  She also eats whatever we eat when we go to restaurants.  Quite honestly, I find it no different than giving her the Gerber pre-made meals... which if you ever tried them, they're kinda gross. Evie tried one and didn't like it at all.

You can use Agave nectar, which is sweet and more natural than (refined)sugar. But ya, this kind of no sugar.evar thing bums me out. I almost never give Phoenix anything with added sugar save for special occasions and treats, so for her birthday, heck ya I made her a real cake with hella frosting. And as she gets older, of course she can have sweets but I agree with Ames, she'll learn moderation not deprivation.

    This is my sentiments exactly.

As someone who has a very complicated relationship with food, I want my daughter to learn to have a healthy relationship with it. I feel like teaching that certain foods are "forbidden" or "bad" only perpetuates the distorted food relationship. if that makes sense.

    Definitely does.

At a baby shower, my niece was 3 or 4 years old at the time, was asked if she wanted cake she replied " No, my dad says cake makes you fat," it broke my heart.

I mean, yeah, if you're only eating cake, it will... but her crazy "gotta stay skinny and fit" parents failed to make that point to her.

ETA: Mind you, at the same party, she ate an entire bowl of potato chips.  So chips are OK and cake is not???

I haven't heard this, but I tend to stick to my birth month board. There is a lot of B-day talk there lately, but no mention yet of no cake. I try not to feed Ash a lot of crap, but we are doing cake smash pics for his b-day and he will definitely get to eat cake!
