Re: well, people suck
I'm sorry for your loss Vccake.
I really applaud the fact that you called him back. That takes a lot of hutzpah lady.
When you go into your appointment, hold your head high. Be proud and just laugh it off, if it comes up say, "Yeah I totally enjoy running, and I know when I get out there I'm lappin all those suckas on the couch!"
Then just laugh and stare at him. You let him know it was wrong--good for you. now let him know you are a tough cookie
.
Nicely put. I'm exactly this as well. I hate it when people make comments that imply if you run slowly, then you are somehow less of a person than a fast runner.
I'm am sorry that you lost your Mom!
I'm sensitive to this to. One of the reasons I started running was I thought I could do it with DH. Problem is he runs a 4.5 min k and I run a 9 min k (8.5 if I'm having a good day). I've had people throw things at me, make comments about why I bother and openly laugh at my times. Most of the time I say well at least I'm having a go, or do you run a olympic marathon pace? But sometimes it does upset me.
Just remember you are not alone, most people cannot run 1 mile period, so no mater how slow your running its still faster than them. You run for a reason, whatever that is remember that. Finally if it bothers you its ok, just remember tomorrow to get back out there and rub their nose in it!
Thanks for your encouraging words. I'm not going to switch chiros. I think he is a good guy who stuck his foot in his mouth. We are all guilty of that from time. As for being overly sensitive right now - yes, that's a given. That said, it was still a crappy thing to say to someone and I'm glad I stood up for myself. But - I won't lie - I feel very self conscious right now and hesitant to run outside. I'm sure I'll get over it and in the grand scheme of life this shiz is minor -- but it sucks to feel like that.
I'm faster than your husband and have had people throw things at me while I was running.
I think 95% of people who see someone running outdoors thing "wow - I couldn't do that" no matter how fast or slow or in between they are running. As for the 5% douchey minority that thinks something snarky - screw them, no one ever impresses them anyway besides themselves.
I'm slow too, but at least I'm running.
yuk! that was a jerky thing to say! i am sloooow too. yesterday a guy was doubling me around the track. i thought it was pretty funny, lol. be proud! you are doing something really good for yourself, don't let a comment like that make you think otherwise.
and i am so sorry about your mom. hang in there, i know that has to be tough.
and what's up with runners getting things thrown at them? does that really happen? lol
although when i think about it a few weeks ago i had a guy/high school boy say to his friend "jug alert" when i was running by them on the track. i wanted to tell him i was old enough to be his mother! lol
slow runners: hold your heads high & keep going!
Yeah I just think some people are asses, but running slow makes you an eaiser target! Just out of intrest, do you run a sub 4 min k?
