What is the price of gas where you live?
Re: What is the price of gas where you live?
That's what is so weird - we are almost a dollar higher than almost everywhere else. So what the heck? Apparently part of it is taxes. And something about our "unique blend" - that's the first I've heard of this in Chicago. I thought California had special regulations - or special gas blend? If so, why is ours still the highest? Anyway...

Wow! Publius, how is KL treating you? Anything that is a total shocker, either good or bad?

Weren't you in Switzerland before this? The lower gas prices must be a real treat!

CA has higher emissions standards for cars, but AFAIK, our gas is the same as anywhere else. We have to have our cars "smog checked" every 2 years. That's it. There's no state auto inspection. You just drive the rustiest piece of junk and as long as you aren't spewing too much pollution, you're good. I have to get my car checked for smog for the first time this year, since it's now 6 years old. And if you have a classic car (before 1981, I think) you're exempt.

$4.19 - $4.39 for Regular (87) in the South Bay
We have refineries and hour away in Martinez but gas costs even more there.
My truck has a 26 gallon tank so it's real fun to fill up.
$3.75
I'm glad we downsized DH's car when we did. Even though it was paid off, we're still paying less money with a loan + gas, then we were paying just gas with his old car.
The worst part of the high gas prices is that it's tied to our electric costs. Our power plants are diesel I believe. So, even though I run nothing electric but what it takes to cook, do laundry, power a laptop, and a couple ceiling fans that usually aren't on, my bill is usually $150. Honestly, I have no idea how it's that high, but it's been consistent since we moved in. I'm half convinced someone's leeching off us, but at 31 cents/kwhr, that's probably not the case.

I'm used to getting it at a place like Best Buy, even though I'm the one who does all the research and decision making about anything electronic. Buying a new tv was the worst. The guy wouldn't even make eye contact with me, despite me asking the questions.
Also, just filled up today. Paid 4.42 for regular. It's .20 more for premium.
