Article: People are mean to me because I am beautiful.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2124246/Samantha-Brick-downsides-looking-pretty-Why-women-hate-beautiful.html?ito=feeds-newsxml

I am guessing people are mean to her because she is uppity and self-involved, but just going out on the limb there. I am probably just jealous ;)

Re: Article: People are mean to me because I am beautiful.

  • So even adults get hurt by what strangers say about them?  Weird. I thought it was just kids.
  • Call me jealous too, but I also don't think she's anything special to look at.

Also, this? "according to our mutual friend, she is adamant that something could happen between her husband and me, ?were the right circumstances in place?"

My H and I have a friend who is absolutely fuuuckings smoking hot.  I think she is WAY more attractive than I am.  I have never once thought anything could happen between my H and her.  I mean, I guess in theory it could, but apparently I'm more secure in my relationship than her friends are in theirs.

  • I'm going to echo sentiments about her looks being mediocre at best. Her face wouldn't stand out to me in a crowd.

She's blond, taller, and has a decent body. I feel like I'm picking her apart, but this article kind of opens her up to it. Her hair isn't like wowzers full voluminous Pantene commercial either.

Blushing bride: Samantha on her wedding day, left, and right, at home with Pascal. She laments that not one of her girlfriends has ever asked her to be a bridesmaid - perhaps from fear of being overshadowed by her looks

She's opening up too much of my snarky and JudgeyMcJudgerson on her.

She's not a bridesmaid, and it has nothing to do with her looks.  That's all I'll say... for now.

  • Oh, so that explains why people are so mean to me!  Wink

I don't see where "beautiful" comes into play.  She's OK, not anything special.  Not pretty but not ugly.  I would say more on the pretty side but plain.  I was expecting amazingness when I clicked on this article to see her picture.  Nothing amazing.

  • WTF??? Get over yourself lady. I expected a Heidi Klum lookalike, but she looks like Baby Spice. I mean, Baby Spice was cute and this lady is too, but I call BS on her getting all this attention.

Based on this quote, her looks have nothing to do with why people don't want her to be in their wedding parties.

    Oh snap.

And now I must share this: my mother frequently traveled to England for work.  When I told her I was dating a Brit, her first question was, "is he even attractive? Because generally the British are not."  My Irish H would say the same (he has loads of English family) but his opinion doesn't count on this matter, LOL.

I really hope reeve doesn't read this thread because I will feel bad, although I have no clue what he looks like. Sad

She's straight up ugly. I clicked thinking you all were being harsh on her looks. Nope. I'm not finding any redeeming qualities in her personality, either.

  • This cracks me up, since there's a lot of scientific data to back up the exact opposite- people with fit bodies and pleasing facial symmetry are usually treated MUCH better than "non-pretty" people.

I guess she just has that sh!itty of a personality! Shocking!

Are you saying her face is symmetrical?  Because that's a boldfaced lie.

ETA:  your wording is kind of awkward but I'm going to guess you are not  saying she is symmetrical.  Sorry.

She looks like she got smacked in the face by a bag of bricks a time or ten, but yeah my wording was awkward. I meant that even if she was pretty, it makes no sense that people would hate her unless she was a really crappy person, which actually seems to be the case regardless of her looks!

  • Not beautiful.  Not even pretty.

In all fairness, I'll bet she can open bottles like a mofo.

  • Ok, seriously now. I have got to ask this question.

Would you all be ripping on this chick if she had a gorgeous face but was obese?

Would it be ok to make jokes about how fat she was just like it's ok to make jokes about how ugly she is.

Someone please explain to me why one is ok and the other is not. Hell, if it's a decent explanation I won't even argue it, but I'm sitting here reading these comments and I got nothin.

Irrelevant.  You put that head on ANY body and she'd still look like a fart.

She looks like Juliette Lewis in The Other Sister.

    ETA: OMG I'm loling.

Once, a well-dressed chap bought my train ticket when I was standing behind him in the queue, while there was another occasion when a charming gentleman paid my fare as I stepped out of a cab in Paris.

Another time, as I was walking through London?s Portobello Road market, I was tapped on the shoulder and presented with a beautiful bunch of flowers. Even bar tenders frequently shoo my credit card away when I try to settle my bill.

Because she wrote an entire article in a major publication about how beautiful she is and how it makes it hard for her. That's why. If you cant see the difference between that and what happened yesterday, well...

Fair enough. So if this was the exact same article but she was obese you would still be making fun of her yes?

Yeahno. If these anecdotes of hers are true, then I'm guessing it's b/c she looks flirty and sexual IRL, not smoking hot. I have friends that definitely aren't super models, but they attract men like moths to a flame b/c they're so good at looking flirtatious and fun. I can see her being one of those types.

Yes, and it would have nothing to do with her weight, and everything to do with her obviously outstanding personality.

You don't see the difference between ripping on fat people in general for being fat, and ripping on a single person with a crap personality narcissistically going on about how people are just jealousE of her good looks without seeming to ever consider that there's something else going on there in a very public article?

We get it lady, you're disgusted by fat people and don't get why you can't just make fun of all the fat people. That must be very hard for you. Are you going to cry about it in every thread that has to do with looks even if fat-vs-thin has nothing to do with it?
