My little guy had to have surgery at 6 months old under general. He came through easily.

My son had to have exploratory surgery in January for a mass which turned out to be a hernia so, I totally understand where you are coming from.
It is scary but he will do fine. Kids bounce back from that stuff so fast. Don't play worse case scenarios out in your head.
Like you said- it's routine, minor and everyone will be be ok!
