AW, you cannot be serious
There is a fine line between witness and pharisee.
Click me, click me!

Re: AW, you cannot be serious
I'm curious about your definition of a Pharisee and how it is applicable here.
I like the sig. It seems very appropriate to me given yesterday's post.
ETA - Wouldn't throwing the word Pharisee around by definition sort of make someone like a Pharisee?
I think she is calling me a Pharisee for my signature. I'm still confused about why.
::shrugs::
I've always identified a little more with the Essenes if we're going to throw around Second Temple sect names. The Essenes were into predestination.
Are you sure she isn't referring to a post of yours somewhere? Because I just don't see how the words witness and Pharisee have anything to do with your new sig.
Yeah. That's what I'm confused about. She didn't really mention what she was calling me out for and the only new thing I can think of is the sig. I haven't posted much since yesterday - only in the modesty and sugar posts that I can remember.
I'm really confused and am hoping she will come back to explain. But I also stand by what I said - calling someone out as a Pharisee is kind of ironic.
AW, spiteful "har-rumphs" aren't your style. Come on. You're better, more clever, more funny than that signature.
Also, at the risk of erupting this stuff again, in America, Christians are not a persecuted minority. They're just not.
i wouldn't say that. it wouldn't be the first time she's whipped out the victim card. IIRC, the last time was her declaration that her rights were slowly being taken away. because if anyone in this country is losing their rights it's mid-western white christians.
as i now have to go bake a cake and can't stick around to defend myself if someone says i'm making things up, here's what i was referring to:
http://community.thenest.com/cs/ks/forums/6/63479413/ShowThread.aspx
It would definitely bother me if someone forced me to take birth control. Luckily, so long as I have my religious freedom that shouldn't happen (we'll see, those rights are being chiseled away slowly).
It just seems over the top and desperate. We get it. You have an issue with the Lord's name in vain etc, etc. but as far as groups who are put upon Christians are not at the top of the list. So no need for the sig.
Heather - I never said I felt persecuted. I do, however, feel like there is a lack of respect shown for the religious folks (particularly Christians) on this board that is shown for other groups of people. I'm not sure how you can deny it. The same people saying "I'm not worried about offending you because it deals with your religion" are the same people saying it is wrong to say offensive things about other groups of people. For Pete's sake (see what I did there), in the middle of a thread where people are saying "I'm not going to stop saying those offensive phrases on your behalf" someone mentioned that the phrase "First World Problems" might be offensive to people living in third world countries and we should avoid using it, and people were like "You're right. How horrible of us. I won't say it anymore."
I guess there is a hyprocrisy I'm seeing.
Like I said, I don't feel persecuted. I feel disrespected, which is why I feel the quote is appropriate. If you respected Christians who are offended by the phrasing you would extend the same courtesy to them that you do people living in third world countries, right?
Ooooh i'd say they are absolutely her style.
I think that you may be being a tad bit too sensitive. When you allow yourself to be a the "spokesperson" for a certain belief that is quite different than the majority of people you set yourself for questions, quizzical stares and the like. When you ask for certain courtesies that ring of silencing others than you put yourself further a part from people.
So when in American history were Christians denied basic human rights or treated like animals or lesser-than people? That's the point people were trying to make that you don't seem to understand. "Fag", N-word", "Retard" do not equate OMG. Big difference there.
Then find or create a meme about Christians actually getting the short end of the stick, instead of how they suffer more than other religions do. Come on now.
I'm a Wiccan. We can have a disrespect-off if you'd like.
Come on, put one of your funny ones back.
For the record, because I'm getting pretty pissy about my example being used as an example of hypocrisy.
1) I used that example of something I personally find offensive but would never ask anyone to stop doing. I thought it was a halfway decent example because it's something that is used all the time on this web site, but I have never chosen to call out because like I said--not my place.
2) I don't say JFC
3) The majority of the few people who actually agreed with me took your side.
For the love of goodness I can't take it. I have half a mind to just delete the darn thing because you are using it to call me a hypocrite because you don't understand the point I am making. Thanks.
Slow clap for Jenilovesneil. Seriously.
AW, if you honestly cannot understand the difference between omg or jfc and the n-word, gay, or even FWP, then you are just looking to be offended. 76% of Americans identify as Christians. That's over three fourths. It's also the most populous religion worldwide by far, with a third of the people on this earth identifying as Christian.
So who exactly is persecuting you?
we all fall down sometimes
brass and ballet flats
i guess if one is going to claim religious persecution, holy week is the time to do it.
Not true. They are being tossed to the lions in Detroit. True story.
people are chucking christians at football players?? that is f*cked up.
Furthermore, I am offended because you did not capitalize "Christians."
sorry 'bout that. i didn't want you to think i was talking about guys named Christian.
Yes,I'm smiling...I'm a marathoner!

You are using the word Pagan here, which describes me, as an insult. It's like calling someone retarded.
Offended!
