this whole thread is making me irrationally angry
Re: this whole thread is making me irrationally angry
My job doesn't have a policy like that. It kind of drives me crazy. I'm all "bad things can happen people!!"
But then we still end of giving kids rides home late at night.
Actually, I understand being concerned about people other than "strangers." The statistics show that most children who are molested are harmed by someone they knew and trusted - a pastor, a coach, an uncle. I think refusing to let a man care for your child is an overreaction, but that doesn't mean that the balance between sanity and paranoia is the most clear-cut.
Okay, this I can understand. Not just from a bad things happen standpoint (molestation) but from a bad things happen standpoint that is 1 caretake + 15 little kids = someone falling in the toilet. More caretakers with more kids tends to be a good idea.
Oh, I completely agree with you. I'm just trying to think like a bumpie and that part of it makes sense in *that* context.
Yes,I'm smiling...I'm a marathoner!

I didn't read the thread but I get the point from the posts on here.
I guess I'm not that surprised at people's paranoia. My SIL and BILs were skeeved out when H and I said that we could take their kids to the bathroom while they had their hands full. My parents definitely let my aunts and/or uncles take us to the bathroom or change our diapers when we were little. Everyone thinks everyone is a perv now.
I would agree with this.
Having worked a lot with small kids. The policy I've always experienced has been to have at least two teachers, male or female with kids. Its for a number of reasons.
Also, as we always found parents like consistency and knowing us.
So basically these people are a-ok with sending the message that men are unable to control sexual or physical desires and will pretty much act them out on anything and everything available given the chance. Ok.
This is pretty much why I never left my XH alone with our couch.

I'm with you!
except, I also bring my kids to a preschool that has *gasp* a bunch of male teachers (the school has four rooms, and three of them have a male teacher in them, including the one the girl is in).
One of the teachers even has the gay! So, clearly, she's destined for short hair, heavy boots and plaid shirts.
One of the reasons we love her school is because of its fantastic teachers, including the men. The kids see men and women in all kinds of roles, and they see them interacting with each other in a way that makes us proud.
...but, apparently, early childhood settings are supposed to model women working in pink collar jobs. Period.
What's going to happen to these kids when they start kindergarten? Are these moms going to refuse to send them to a public school with any male teachers in it? It's not like when they start K they magically don't have potty accidents anymore.
I am the 99%.

Let alone the dog or cat.
This is incredibly frustating to DH (who's a SAHD).
Watch out for the ones with real beards.

I hate people.
These are the same people who belittle male elementary teachers, because they claim there must be something wrong with a male who wants to teach young children. It ticks me off to no end.
We have used male sitters. I don't see how that is any more risky than male sitters. h babysat as a teen. Thank god. It made. My life much easier once we had dd.
