Have you ever done a race alone?

Maybe I'm weird, but I've never done a race with anyone.  I always run alone.

Me too. I prefer it that way.

  • I occasionally run alone, but I think running alone is the norm.
  • I did my first Half last year alone.  I started out with at least 3 of us that were going to do it, all of our first times.

In the end. it was me on my own.  It was weird, sort of a lonely but empowering feeling all at the same time.

The race was 4 hours away, and my DH, DD and in laws drove with us, and all came to the race, but they ended up being late due to waiting on DH's cousin. So in the end, I trained by  myself, ran by myself, and celebrated by myself at the finish line.

  • I don't race, but I rode a Century last summer alone.  Venus de Miles in Longmont - all women.  It was fun - I enjoyed the solitude for part of the time, and there's always some to talk with at the rest stops.

  • I prefer running alone. I've ran all my races alone, but have known people running the same races  and have met up with them before and/or after. H will usually be there to cheer me on, but I have gone to races completely solo.

  • Yes, I did one HM with my run buddy & one on my own. I MUCH preferred the one on my own b/c, well, I was on my own to go as fast or slow as I felt like without worrying about somebody else's run.
  • I've done a half alone (well, my H was there, but he is really fast, so we did it separately). It was great! My time was better because I wasn't chatting during the race, but I talked to some very nice people at the start. I actually enjoyed a little more than running with friends, because I was in charge of my own pace the entire race and didn't have to worry about being too fast/slow.

  • I've done plenty of races on my own.  Go for it.  You won't be the only one.

  • I never run with others.  I trained and ran the tinkerbell half solo and wouldn't have it any other way. same for the Hollywood half this past weekend. if that's pathetic, so be it!

  • Not weird at all. I didn't read through all the replies, but I'm guessing quite a few people do races alone. I've done a few with friends or family, but I almost always go solo. GL!
