s/o cont. theme - Phobias

What are your phobias?

No joke, I have a fear of fish that's only getting worse as I get older.

A big old middle finger to you, stupid Nest.

Re: s/o cont. theme - Phobias

  • Most insects. I've gotten to the point of not screaming, most of the time. We've had spiders on our bedroom ceiling a few times this week. I won't go near them, but when H is home I have him come take care of the situation. If I see a cockroach, all bets are off.

Moreso than phobias I have some kind of weird ticks or compulsive issues. I can't take out the garbage. I hate being near the garbage. I'm sure my husband thinks this is a made up excuse. Stick out tongue I'm weirdly methodical about brushing my teeth. I do it before I shower, and it has to be with hot water, and I have to rinse and clean my toothbrush a certain way.

  • Snakes. It used to be so bad that I made my DH leave the pet store so I could use the bathroom. I didn't want to walk past the snake section to get to the bathroom. :0(

However, I've really tried to overcome this fear because I don't want my girls to pick up on it.

  • Anything eyeball related.

Flameful confession:I've NEVER been to an eye doctor.

Those stupid human tricks where they bulge out the eyeballs make me run screaming. I can't even really talk about or think about eyeballs without feeling weak and faintish. LOL

  • Also on my list, crickets.

    and zombies (natch).

A big old middle finger to you, stupid Nest.
  • Small, tight spaces... getting trapped somewhere (I got light headed watching 127 hours & couldn't finish it)

I have horrible dreams where all my teeth are loose and falling out of my mouth, augh.

And this isn't really a phobia, but I refuse to open those biscuit cans that pop. I make H do it, lol.

  • Snakes and chipping my teeth.

My fear of snakes is totally irrational. You would not believe the weird things I do to avoid them "just in case" one is lurking.

  • Snakes.  Like, get chills if there is a picture of one in Kat's picture books and I have to touch the page or read about it.  She thinks it's hilarious and pretends to be a snake all the time.

    Zombies.

Space and the ocean.  being a tiny tiny thing in a large large thing make me kind of go panicky.  That scene in Castaway where Tom Hanks is floating in the ocean and the whale surfaces next to him is the MOST FRIGHTENING scene in cinema ever.  I still flinch thinking about it.

  • Aliens

    spiders

I have a fear of heights but that one is weird because *I* like being up high - its almost like this involuntary reaction my legs have to not move.

I think i have a crowd phobia. If I'm in one I need to find the way out and be the first one there. I don't get panicky about it but its something I sorta naturally start doing. I guess I like being side lined.

Ditto snakes. I didn't think I did but if I see one just hanging out outside I flip out. It's very involuntary as well.

Mold - I wont look at older things in my fridge. I just throw them out and try to not barf at the thought of what's inside.

Seriously...I used to freak seeing them on t.v. Watching Harry Potter sucked too.

  • My only true phobia is a fear of loud noises.  I'm afraid of spiders.  It's a pet peeve of mine when people use phobia to describe any fear (which I don't know if folks are doing it here, I just mean in general).

that is the one thing that doesn't get me.  The super giant fake snakes, like the basilisk.  And the movie Anaconda.  There's a scene where they blow up this dam and it's FILLED with snakes and all the little snakes come raining down and i seriously fell out of my chair and went into full blown fight or flight disassociation mode, but later when it's just the one giant snake it didn't bother me at all.

  • Heights - even watching someone being up high on tv makes me palms all sweaty.

The ocean - tiny person on tiny boat in GINORMOUS water filled with god knows what? no, just...no.

    Zombies

    Irrational fears?

Oven doors. I know, I know, I know. Stupid. But I swear I have this irrational fear that they'll close on my arm or something.

Dolls. My parents were BAD BAD parents. I watched way too many horror movies as a kid involving dolls (hello 80s horror flicks). My first summer after law school, I clerked at a small civil rights firm. My boss was going out of town for a month, and had heard about the problems I was having with my roommates, so asked if I'd like to housesit for him in his (awesome) house for the month. I agreed and the day before he left, he invited me over to show me around. During the tour, he showed me his wife's "special" room - filled floor to ceiling with porcelain dolls. Worst.month.ever. Sad

  • Spiders, although I've tried really hard to tame that since I had my boys.  Now I'm all "Spiders!  Awesome!" when I'm dying inside.

My sister has a real phobia of bridges that has caused her some issues, obviously.

  • Cotton and similar type fabric.

I can't stand having gauze in my mouth during dental procedures. It causes me more anxiety than the drill.

I cringe if I see a baby, dog, or person put a blanket or stuffed animal in their mouth.

It's too the point where I can't even rip napkins or paper towels.

    Do I win? lol

  • Rats! Swarms of giant rats, white lab rats, Chuck E Cheese. All rats give me the creepy-crawlies me.

  • Tornadoes, I freak out if there's a watch even in the neighboring county.

My mother is the same way! She told me that when she first came to the US, she had some really bad reactions to the soaps & cleaning products here so her skin got really dry & cracked and the thought of fibers getting into the little cuts on her fingers freaked her out. Until this day, she won't touch certain things.

it's the tails that creep me out, mostly.  those tails.

  • - Butterflies. Crazy fear of butterflies. Those zoo exhibits where they fly all around are torture - I cannot go through them.

There was a butterfly on the El one day and I was freaking out so bad I had to get off at the next stop before I screamed bloody murder or had a heart-attack. And of course, no one on the train is freaking out except for me. I think I pushed people out of the way to get off. So embarrassing.

     - Escalators. Bizarre fear of falling off backwards. I cannot stand still on them and have to walk up or down as quickly as possible.

    - Being trapped in small spaces. That movie with Ryan Reynolds where he was trapped in the box? I made it about 3 minutes into the movie and had to leave the room cause I was starting to hyperventilate.

    Yeah...

  • Shots.  I pity the poor nurses that have to give me injections. :(  I

My DS is almost 2, and he has to catch the chickens and ducks. I can't do it.

All birds. You know those cute little Easter chicks? My DH came home with 28 of them. They lived in my house and I had nightmares about finding them in my bed. He moved them to the garage until I came home and opened the garage door and found one staring at me.

They were out of feed last weekend, and I had to have my BIL feed them.

    I hate them.
