  • Honestly, the military is the first time I saw people having kids so young, especially on purpose.  I literally have 1 friend from high school who had a kid before 30.  I have 2 other acquaintances with very young children.  That's it.  Everyone else I know with kids/pregnant is from the military or college, and they all waited till around 30.

Sure, stereotyping is ridiculous, and I don't think the military demographic is that different than the average American, but it was my first exposure to "average".

Also, during my first foray to this board, years ago, there was a woman saying she needed wic b/c cable was the only thing that got her through boring days in Japan.  There was more flameful than that, and we all know I'm a skittle loving liberal.  At the time, I was also living in Japan, in a city of 40k, and she was in a city of millions, an hour train ride from Tokyo, my favorite city in the world, and I was many many hours (and $$$$$) from it.  I was flipping pissed about that.

  • I work shifts in labor & delivery in a non-military town. We have 12 and 13 year olds getting KU and are idolized by their middle school friends. And no, these are not incest or rape cases. I just delivered a 17 year old today and it was her second pregnancy. Stereotyping young pregnancies to military is ridiculous. I deliver young moms at least 1-2 times a week.

That would be so frustrating. 12 and 13!? It's like no one is teaching these girls wtf comes after their first period. Obviously just telling kids NOT TO DO IT and not educating them is working.

When I was delivering my second baby, my nurse was also working with a 14 yr old who was in labor.  She kept coming in so upset because the girls mom refused to allow her to get an epidural because she wanted her to feel the pain thinking it would keep her from getting pregnant again.  You could hear the girl crying, screaming and begging for the drugs.  It was terrible.
