Stolen from TIP

How old were you when you met, got engaged to, and married your H/SO/FI? I was 16 when we met P was 17. I was 17 when he asked my dad to marry me(be nice :D) P was 18. I was 18 when we married P was 19.

Re: Stolen from TIP

  • I was 22 almost 23 when we met, just finished college. He was 20 almost 21. I was ... Um ... 24 when we got engaged and that would have made him 22. I was 25 close to 26 and a semester away from my MA when we got married and he was 23 and graduated undergrad the day before (USAFA).  I think those ages are right. I'm feeling senile right now.

  • Meh, I'll bite. Mainly because I'm being a postwhore and I hate my newb status.

I guess we met at 16 or 17 but I didn't really 'know' him.

I was 18 when engaged and married. He was 22 for both.

In all honesty, looking back I wish I would have waited 100%. I love my H and I don't regret marrying him, but if I had to give someone else advise or have a 'do-over' I would wait.. for quite awhile.

Everyone said it was going to be hard, but I was like "Fluck you all.. I got this.. WE'RE going to be the different couple!!"
We've encountered a lot more struggles than we would of if we would have waited and I've (and he) changed A LOT through the years.

Well since I rambled on.. um.. ya.

  • Met = me-19 dh-20 (it was the day after his birthday, well around 3am to be exact)

Engaged = me-23 dh-24 (it was the day after his birthday)

Married = me-24 dh-25 (it was the day after his birthday-sensing a trend yet?)

We'll be together 10 years and married 5 years on 11/3.

  • We were both 19 when we met, and engaged and married at 21.  So, we've known each other for about 10 years, and married for 8 of those years.

Since we were still so young, we waited to TTC until we both finished our bachelor's degrees and were more financially comfortable. I had my daughter two days before my 28th birthday. She'll be two years old this summer.  It's crazy how time flies.

  • Met, 18, first week of college

Started dating 23 I think? Edit: It was 24.  I remember now.

    Engaged at 25

    Married 26.

Even at the time I felt so young, but that's ancient compared to all your stories.

I was 20 and he was 21 when we met.  I'd just turned 22 and he was 23 when we got engaged and married.  We're 31 and 32 now, and like many of the others above I think waiting to get married would have been the smarter choice for us.  Still, I can't say I have any real regrets.

We've been married for over 5 years now and, as PP have said, it would have been easier had we waited but I do not regret any of it for a minute. Not even managing to have a honeymoon baby. Chalk me up as a stereotype! Oh wait, he didn't enlist until he was 23 and now we are 26. NEVAH-MIND.

  • Met and started dating at 22, also engaged at 22. Married at 23. It was fast and furious. And we both regret not waiting until we were a little older to get married.

  • Hold your selves together, Ladies.  Here comes my typical stereotype story.

We met when I was 27 and he was 22.  I got pregnant 3 months later.  We got engaged when she was 4 months old and married two weeks later.  Completely back asswards, but what evs.  We've been together for 6 years, married for 5.

  • I hate that I felt like a stereotype after typing this out and posting it. Just for being married young and having a son. Because there are morons out there. *** that noise.

We were engaged the week after I turned 19 and he was 21.

We got married when we were 19 and 21.

We got pregnant 4 months later.

I really, wish we would have waited or if we had just been older.  I love my H and being married to him, but since we were ( are ) so young and didn't know each other long it is hard some times.  We both know we love each other and our family and work through those hard times, and come out just a little better on the other side.

I feel like a total stereotype, too.  On a different note, though.  We're out of debt, not on WIC or any type of govt assistance, and save as much as possible.  So I think we're not stereotypical on that level.  But whatevs.  Haters gon' hate.

  • Met- I was 17, H was 18

    Engaged- I was 19, H was 20

    Married- I was 19, H was 21

I seriously wish we had waited. Our wedding had no booze since I wasn't old enough to drink and now I think everyone must have been super bored. Also, the first year our our marriage really sucked.

  • Met: 19, started to date a few months shy of 20

    Engaged: 22

    Married: 22

.... I think. I suck at math and can't figure out if these numbers are right. Also, it's after 1am and I'm not even sure what I'm still doing awake much less on here and watching Hardcore Pawn (which I've never even seen before).

Lol when I first read that I totally thought you said hardcore porn. I was like thats something to share :D. Of course thats what you would see at five am without a first cup of coffee
  • Met: I was 20 and H was 19.

    Engaged: I was 22 and H was 21.

    Married: I was 23 and H was 22.

But we were only engaged for 6 months (the ages make it seem like it was a year), had to rush that wedding a bit in time to move.

  • Met I was 18 he was 21

    Engaged I was 22 he was 24

    Married I was 22 he was 25

  • We met when I was 19 he was 25, married at 20 and 26. I don't regret getting married young but I wish we had waited a bit longer just to get to know each other. We were engaged and planned on a 2009 wedding but then he got deployment orders so we JOPed. I'm 24 and he'll be 30 in a couple months. Time flies.

  • Man I feel old. We met and started dating when he was 22 and I was about to turn 24. We got engaged when I was 26 and he was 24. Got Married when I was 27 and he was 26. (I turned 28 2 weeks later lol).  We will be married a year in August.

Granted, he didn't join the Marines until 2009, when he was, um. 23 about to turn 24.

I have no clue if these ages are right. I'm pretty sure.  I'm blaming it on my age if they are not.

We were also the same age for everything.

    Met: 13

    Dating: 16

    Engaged:  24

    Married: 25

  • My ages might be a little off, so I'm including years too.

Met- forever ago. Our parents have known each other forever. Lets say the first time I really "met" him on my own I was about 14.

Dating- I was about to turn 19 he was 20 I think. It was December of 2005.

Engaged- I had just turned 20 he was 21 I think. It was May 2007.

Married- I was 22, he was 23. It was July 2009.

There are times I wish we would have waited a little longer to get married. We had a 2 year engagement as it was though.  And there are other times when I am glad we got married when we did. My mom died 10 days before our first wedding anniversary, I'm really glad E was able to know my mom as well as he did. I'm really glad he was there with me for everything. I think if we were just engaged or dating it would have been different.  We have done a lot of growing together as well as growing on our own but its made us stronger.

    Engaged: 24

Wow, I can't believe it's already been almost 4 years since we have met. Time goes by way too fast.

  • I expected a lot of young marriages, but I'm actually surprised at how many.  I was sure there'd be more people getting married in their late 20s.  That's the norm among my friends.

  • When we 'met' I was 7, DH was 13- we grew up pretty close to each other and he was friends with an older cousin of mine.  I moved for college when I was 17 and he was stationed in the same city, but I didn't know it at them time (I hadn't seen him since I was 13 and he and my cousin both joined the military- (seems creepy at that age, but we weren't dating or even speaking to each other, I just knew who he was and vice versa).

I started bartending at 18 and he came into the bar with his friends, we started dating two weeks later, so me 18 and him 24.

We got engaged when I graduated college at 22/28 and didn't get married until 26/32.  Been married for 4 years, just had our first offspring ;)
