So we have decided that it is time to expand our family
Re: So we have decided that it is time to expand our family
No. I didn't say anything about your responsibility level. Simply that a dog can be left on its own if needed. Its an apples to oranges comparison to me. You could get both for all it matters but if you are looking for less maintenance & more freedom then a dog may be a good idea. I don't have any business telling you if I feel you are fit to procreate. You expressed hesitation about a kid (babysitters etc) so maybe a dog (something you are familiar with) may be a better fit. You asked for opinions and I gave you mine.
Also, I wasn't aware that my kid had to be a certain age for my opinion to matter about this? Muddled can get a dog AND get pregnant (I've done it lol). I think she would be great at both. I was just going off the hesitation apparent in her post. She stated she wanted to do one or the other. She is familiar with dogs and has yet to have a kid. I figure going with what you know would be a good idea.
I have no idea how my simple statement got blown out of proportion, but I guess some folks are thirsting for drama today.
Oh I get it. I am currently in the middle of raising a baby and I've had a puppy/high needs dog (also currently in the middle of that). I am in the middle of an experience that Muddled is asking about (getting a dog or a newborn). In order to be able to have an opinion I have to be further into parenting. Gotcha.
So exactly HOW far into raising my kid do I get to tell you what my experience is like? One year? When they ship off to college? Exactly how long would it take for my opinion to be valid?
I will speak to the dog experience because I have over 10 years of experience with Animals and Rescues. I feel that would most likely qualify me there.
I absolutely think that Muddled could handle a kid. I don't understand how my vote for "get a dog" automatically excludes her from being able to have a kid or that I think she will do poorly with a child.
Whatever works at this point. Have a kid AND get a dog. Do what works for you.
I will make sure that I only offer my parenting experience after the TIP-approved age limit.
FTR, I did question anyone that offered an opinion one way or another. You were just the only one that took my question so seriously. And I believe the only one that took the dog side.
Thank you for saying that I would be great at both.
Yeah, I thought you were serious.
Oh well, I guess I'm just need to have another cup of coffee, but I'll make it decaf. lol
But I do think you'd be fine either/or-- but if you do BOTH you get all the cuteness in one place.
I am semi-serious in that we are having a difficult time with the child decision. No secret there. But, yes, I do recognize that dogs and children are different animals (haha) and I do not need a message board to make up my mind for me. Even I am not that nuts.
I am embarrassed that you quoted my typo. Blech.
I was totally going to make a "Doggie Howser" joke, but I decided to spare all of you. YWIA.
Yeah, I went there.
But hey, I would be darn tootin proud to have either Doogie or NPH as a child.
I"m jumping in late and derailing here, but what's w/ all the "oh, someday you'll understand" Bullhonkey today?
That's the shiit that normally gets people stabby around here (as well it should)
FWIW, when we had trouble TTC, we went out and got my devil cat.
I'm not sure that was a wise move, but we love the evil feline.

Dammit I am super pissed I missed this post.
Muddled, you know I am on Team Human Spawn. There's always a shot he'll be a savant and learn every street in the city and then he can give your cabbies directions, which will be ADORABLE.
Scenario B is, the dog will be home pissing the bed while your cabbie drives you all over town.
Not even close! Dogs can't even TALK!
I love you, Fuss.
That is all.
