The Bachelor to be sued for racial discrimination

Re: The Bachelor to be sued for racial discrimination

Just from viewing a few episodes of each, I sense that there is more self-awareness from the contestants on Flavor of Love that their show is a trainwreck, so they might as well go all out with the ridiculousness. On The Bachelor, the contestants there seem to be totally unaware that they are being ridiculous and all they do is cry about being madly in love with a guy they've known for 5 seconds.

But maybe I just watched the wrong episodes of both lol. And I probably still make no sense.

I guess I'm not sure what this has to do with whether or not The Bachelor should be making more of an effort to include minorities.

Nothing. You brought up Flavor of Love so I went with it.

  • I really miss Flavor of Love.

  • The point is people of color have a right to make a$$es of themselves on network reality TV. Why should we be relegated to cable?

    LMAO!

But really, that's kind of the point of the lawsuit, that casting directors for a reality show shouldn't be dismissing qualified candidates solely on the basis of race.

Granted, I doubt they'll get far because the producers could easily say it wasn't race, it was arbitrary, etc. But I do think there is value in bringing the lawsuit as it will likely force other shows if not the Bachelor themselves to make a more concerted effort to include minorities.

The Bachelor is the only show I can think of that seems to be white only. Survivor, Amazing Race, Biggest Loser, Apprentice, Wipeout, Dancing with the Stars, etc. all give the opportunity for anyone to make asses out of themselves.

Bachelor needs to get up with the times.

I used to read J. Harvey's recaps of that show on A Socialite's Life and I'll be damned if they weren't even better than the show.

I think Blind Date did a fair job of mixing it up. Everyone had the equal opportunity of ending up in a hot tub at the end of the date.

    *sigh* I miss Blind Date.

  • I don't think I've heard of Tough Love. *runs to Google*
  • You know, I don't watch the Bachelor/Bachelorette because I just don't care about all those white people and what they are talking/whining/cry mumbling about on there.

Black people be put upon yo.

  • I don't think I have ever watched the Bachelor so I'm going off of US weekly covers here. My impression is that the show and its ette version serves as primarily a launching pad for F list celebrities to get "hosting" gigs and the like. Right? Most of the relationships don't last but the characters live on in "party at club xyz featuring Kayleigh from the Bachelor." No?

So I can see a case for being denied equal opportunities into the minor celebrity feeder system and the subsequent income that comes from being the equivalent of Audrina Patridge.

Or I should just ditto HAB.

    TOUGH LOVE IS THE SHIIT!

I truly adore that show and yes, equal opportunity. I particularly liked that he featured ghetto messes and professional black women as well. Sometimes I feel like they only pick biitches like New York.

If that the imagine men are getting of what black women are like . . . well.

And now can I share how salty I am that Halle Berry is so fuuking nuts? Her fame opened doors for my white boy dating ass and now biitch is coocoo for cocoa pops.

aka, you ever leave me for whatever fuuking reason and I will hate you with the core of my being and make your life a miserable hell crazy.

Don't get me wrong. I am not calling Gabriel Aubry a saint or anything but it's become quite clear that Halle done lost it and now I don't believe a damned thing she ever said about her break ups.

In the good news column, Olivier Martinez will get his lolol.

True. It seems like most of them on there just want a husband so desperately and are willing to move, change careers, etc to accomodate some random guy.

And black or hispanic girls can't do this?

I'll actually go so far as to say that not featuring black men in regular average roles, reality or otherwise is contributing to harmful stereotypes of black men, the most extreme of cases ends in things like Trayvon Martin's death.

Oh they definitely can. It's unfortunate that it is like this, but they are all about ratings, and the story of 2 pretty white people falling in love, a la Ken and Barbie, sells millions.

What about Flavor of Love?  Didn't that show have pretty high ratings?  I watched every episode!  Remember the girl who sh!t on the floor?

ETA: I should read the whole thread first.  Haha, we talked about Flavor of Love.  Damn, I miss that show.  And Rock of Love and Bret Michaels talking about his boners.

    Go babies Caden!

Rock of Love was awesome. I miss Dallas and Lacey battles. Flavor of Love was hilarious, and Flavor Flav is still a guilty pleasure, as were the spinoff shows that came from both of these.

Even if they find a smoking gun to prove that the producers burned all the applicants of colors pictures in a racist tirade they will still never prove damages.  How do you put a value on being denied the opportunity for a fake engagement and pictures of your high school boyfriend in People magazine?

You look at every bachelor/bachelorette who has ever been on the show and measure their net worth prior to being on the show and their net worth each successive year following.

Yup, as ridiculous as those People photos are, I'm sure you get paid something for them.  The fake engagement may lead to exposure on the Today show and whatever other opportunities come from that for being a spokesperson or whatever.  I could see a monetary benefit specifically tied to being on the show.

SBP, do you think it would be that straightforward?  I'm thinking of a situation where the bachelor/bachelorette owned a business before and that does better after the show.  Do we assume that all increased business (and therefore net worth) is from the show, despite the business being something that is run the same before and after?

  • I miss Rock of Love.  I love that show.  LOVE.
