If you work FT out of the house, when do you work out?
Re: If you work FT out of the house, when do you work out?
1. What a cutie!
2. Do not be too hard on yourself. You have to do what you have to do.
3. The ideas you gave are great.
I do not have children (yet...working on that) but I work out in the morning and it works for me. Maybe trying easing into mornings and see if that works or work with DH to have your "me aka gym time" in the evenings while he takes care of the baby?
I have a 3 year old and 5 year old, work full time and am in grad school. My hubby works a lot and is training for the same half marathon as me. All this means that it can be quite a challenge to carve out time for working out/training.
The mornings are out, because as it is I get up at 5:30 and I can't get up any earlier because I am up late doing homework most nights. So generally, I work out twice on weekdays after work. While DH and my kids eat, I go and run. Then I come home, eat, and do bath time stuff for the kids while my DH goes out and runs.
I save my big workouts or runs for weekends. DH and I find someone to watch the kids when possible, but 75% of the time it's just not...so we take turns. I go, then he goes or vice versa.
None of it is ideal...I mean it's not like I love to miss dinner time with my kids... but it's really my only option. I just make sure it's not more than 2 times a week.
Congrats on your baby!!!
D, that looks like a good plan. Do you actually have a 24hr, 24 hour fitness near by? Giving M alone time with baby later in the evening may allow for some gym time.
My work hours are different than yours, but here's my current schedule. DH travels 50%ish of the time, and my kids are 5 & 6. I typically get up at 5 & run. If that doesn't happen, I run at night on our treadmill. If DH does happen to be home, like tonight, for example, I went to the gym after dinner while he was doing showers/homework/bed time. I always work out on weekends as well. Running works for me because I have a treadmill at the house, I can go for a run from my house if DH happens to be home & time pops up, and I enjoy it. I'd love to find time for classes, but it's too much right now.
Good luck!
Hey thanks everyone for the input.
Kirsky - there really isn't a 24hour in San Clemente but there are a lot near work. I'd just go after work once or so a week, and possibly once on weekends. Luckily, H is really supportive of staying healthy/fit so if I wanted to work out at night, he'd definitely watch the baby. He already does that now. Like nabum says though, I don't want to sacrifice my time with the baby to go work out, at least not often.
Thanks again!
I've struggled with running in the evening after work and have recently switched to running in the morning. I get up at 5am for a 4-5 mile run and leave my house at 6:45am sharp to catch my train to work in the morning.
The first few weeks were definitely an adjustment period, but it's getting easier to get up and go in the morning. Plus, it's such a relief knowing in the evenings that I don't have to go out for a run.
My workout time is either during lunch or after 8pm. I have given up on trying to make myself a morning person; waking up earlier is a no-go.
Lunchtime workouts just became an option for me last week and they have to be limited to 30 minutes max.
Trying to work out after 8pm was very unsuccessful for me, as you already know. I was either completely exhausted from the day or felt guilty about giving up one-on-one time with H.
I do pilates one evening a week from 6-7, but I feel a little bummed because those days I pretty much see J for only 30-40 minutes total.
I'm the most scheduled person I know trying to balance everything. I get up at 5 a.m. to workout-30 minutes of cardio either on my elliptical or one of my DVD's, then shower, then do stuff around the house and get the animals fed & played with while my hair is drying. Then I finish getting ready and leave the house for work.
When I get home I cook dinner, get the animals fed and do 30 minutes of strength training.
I bounce quickly from each item and have gotten into a routine. If I can do a crock pot dinner while playing with the animals, I will. My husband also does a more extensive "walking of the dog" on Saturdays as well.
