  • I'm sorry, but I got lost after the anecdote comparing a wedding photography session to a national commercial with a 6 or 7 figure budget. Gaffers know their sh!t, lighting different skin tones in the same shot is not an issue.

Thank you for more Idris! sigh.

Right?!?  Tackling this one first - IF this had anything to do with lighting, I would think that someone in charge of lighting for a freaking Super Bowl commercial could handle it and fix whatever issues there might be.  So even if it was the reasoning behind the requirement, and if it did potentially pose a problem, let's assume that those in charge of lighting this commercial would be able to take care of it, so it wouldn't be a problem any more.

Now, that said - I dont believe for one minute that was the reasoning behind the requirement, and I dont think anyone else here really does either.  I'm kind of surprised the casting company was so blatant as to put it in the ad or whatever like that, when they could have weeded out based on color in other ways.  So you lose a lot of points for the requirement itself, and then more points for being stupid about it.

And to think, all of these interracial couples that have gotten married and have had great photographs. Either their photographers were super awesome, they had special props to help with the lighting issues that a darkie may present, or maybe, just maybe, it ain't all that hard totake a decent pic of a black person.

Right? If a photographer can't get decent pix of an interracial wedding party I'm going with they aren't that good.

. My sister and father are photographers and can manage this far less people working on a super bowl ad. Z

Lets not sugarcoat it. Darker = less attractive and scarier/more threatening  for some people and that is the reason it was included not some mythical lighting issue.

  • They should give out an Oscar JUST for lighting.  I had no idea.  NO IDEA what the lighting peeps had to do.

I mean, I want the lighting guys to get a retroactive Oscar for Major League.  This is a gift, people:

That dog was in a freak accident involving puppy chow, and an electrical outlet. He doesn't have a face anymore.  Every day that dog regrets sticking his tongue in that outlet.  EVERY DAY.  How could you be so cruel?

That's why you never see any movies made in Africa. It's simply not technically possible.
