'Choose Life' license plates

Re: 'Choose Life' license plates

Interesting that they use the word "choose"...

Hmm...choice...who is it that's in favor of choice, again?

This is exactly why I can't summon any outrage about the plates.

  • So other special plates like gay rights, etc., will be considered. Not accepted, but considered.

Anyone want to bet me cold hard cash that in the above listed case, considered is just a code word for "make it appear that we actually care about the open minded and non judgemental people, but we really don't and will reject it when it comes through." ?

  • Bumper sticker == government issued license plate. Specialty plate =/= vanity plate.

Government issued specialty license plates aren't to "change minds." They are to raise money for causes.

So basically what's happening here is the government is licensing a political action organization to raise money on government issued property.

Just want to make sure we are all clear here.

  • My apologies I read the question wrong. I still think its just like anything else, though..if you don't like it, don't buy it..nbd

No one ever wants to play when I ask why is the baby white?

this is the TN one... I'm not a violent person but every time I see this plate I want to key the offending car

I see this sticker on tons of cars everyday. Gag. Yay Louisiana. I'm totally chill, but this makes me stabby, too. My H & I spend a considerable amount of our commute trying to come up with pro-abortion, pro-gay bumper sticker ideas.

Oh please.  I'm willing to bet the "Choose Life" plates were once "considered".

And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this Rock I will build my Church, and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it.

I'm sure the word considered is there so they have some recourse when a dumb trick or twelve tries to get a heritage, not hate license plate approved.

I hate feeling like people are judging choices I have made while I am just driving to work. Have you ever seen the pro life bumper sticker that says "killing babies is a bad choice,"? I have seen that one a few times and its just ridic.

I honestly don't get this. If you are sure of your choice (whatever that is) who cares whether others judge you for it?

If the choice was a horrible, agonizing decision, as it is for many people, I can't imagine that you'd appreciate being reminded of it or being reminded that people are judging you for it every time you drive somewhere.

Well, in that case, I guess we shouldn't have pro-euthanasia plates either (which some seem to be pushing).  I mean there are plenty of people who choose not to terminate the life of their loved one and that too could have been an agonizing decision...knowing their loved one may have suffered those last moments of life.

And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this Rock I will build my Church, and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it.

So those wild life license plates, purple heart ones, save the tatas plates those are all symbols of forcing your beliefs on other people?

    Confused

No, just the ones you happen to disagree with.

    HTH.

    oh please.

i agree with animal rights, breast cancer research and environmental activism with regards to saving the jersey shorline and i still judge people with those plates.

if you really belive in those causes why not just donate directly to the cause rather than giving a portion to the state?

The point Hab was making was about whether one thought those plates were forcing their beliefs on others.  Those that do feel that way will only feel that way if it is something they disagree with.  You happen to disagree with these plates in general...so not apples to apples.

And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this Rock I will build my Church, and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it.
  • I'm as pro choice as they come and I couldn't give a darn about this.  The plates and bumper stickers actually help me to figure out which of my neighbors I might get along with.
  • I really don't think the state should be putting any hot button issues (abortion, adoption, children, sports etc)  on license plates.   I don't think it serves the public interest.

Good thing there aren't Eric Lindros license plates. I could guarantee you I'd cause a wreck when I stroked out thinking about my lost Stanley Cup.

Muthafuuker! I feel a tic coming on right now.

There's a Flyers one.  You could probably personalize it, though I'm sure most variations of THANKS FOR NOTHING LINDROS have been taken.

I have a vanity plate for my alma mater, which doesn't promote anything other than I am a big nerd.

I don't have a problem with a choose life plate, for some reason I judge bumper stickers more harshly.  Maybe because I judge bumper stickers in general.

and i agree with HAB's point, which apparently means i disagree with yours.  so yes, it is "apples to apples".

  • We have the confederate flag one here in Ga as well. Good luck getting me to "kindly" let you get in my lane when you need to get over, better luck with the person behind me.

    Here's my official opinion:

Haha! I snorted. And I agree. WHO CARES? The older I get, the less I care what causes people put on their car. You're pro-life. Meh. Good for you. You still drive like a tool.

  • I'd never do it for the same reason I wouldn't put a bumper sticker on my car, for the same reason my dad never does. If a cop pulls you over, you don't want to remotely give them any ammo to be hardasses. Who's to say the cop wouldn't let you off without a warning, but then he saw your bumper stickers and totally disagrees with you so he makes judgments and tickets you anyway. I also don't want my car to be a target for vandalism, etc.

Oh, and this too. I mean, put what you want on your car, but your bigot ass can also wait.

Actually, it's kind of nice that I get to know who is a asshat and who is okay.

Really? By that logic vet license plates should be banned because of the risk of flaring up someone's PTSD.

To be fair, if I see a Cardinals license plate, I still get all ragey about Shawn Marcum's abysmal first inning in Game 6 of the NLCS and Tony "I'm a douche" LaRussa accusing the Brewers of cheating.

(Can you tell I'm not in a mood to discuss anything remotely serious today?)

I get all ragey when I see someone with a Jimmy Buffett plate driving like a d!ckhead. I mean really, if you a true Parrothead, you should be chilling out to Changes in Latitudes and imagining the sand between your toes, not tailgating/driving like NASCAR driver in heavy traffic/cutting people off.

Jimmy Buffet plate frames p*ss me off too, but because I think his fans should NOT get to claim the title "parrothead." I do not like his music. I have three parrots. I kiss them every day. One of them calls me "mama." I have donated money to various parrot-related causes. I genuinely love parrots (especially mine). Most of the Buffet fans I have met don't give a sh*t about actual parrots, though, and when I had a plate frame with parrots on it, I kept getting honked at by people who would roll down the window and shout, "It's 5:00 somewhere!"

    BARF.

I should get the parrot plate frame! Not you margarita-swilling non-bird-lovers!

    /petty rant

  • I was on my way to abort my unborn baby and then, I saw this "choose life" number plate and I totally started singing wake me up before you go go, and I sang it the whole way to the clinic. Awesome!

Fvckings LOL.  Did it wake you up?

  • A litte off topic:

I can't stand those stupid stick figure people that you see on cars.

(the only thing I may put on my car is a Darwin Fish, because I

carcked up the first time I saw one))
