GTKY: Why do you run?

Re: GTKY: Why do you run?

  • I want to make sure I'm not the slowest when the zombie apocalypse goes down.
  • Lose weight!

  • I wanted to challenge myself to be active when I was overweight and starting WW.  I did the C25K program and really enjoyed it.  As I lost the weight, I kept running.  It has become a stress reliever for me. In addition, my SIL has started to run and it is good to go together.  I can always fit in a run when I need to exercise.  I am not fast nor do I run long distances but I can see myself improving with every run and that is a great feeling.
  • I travel for work so I can run anywhere, no excuses about no gym etc. I run to help control my anxiety (which isn't working at the moment). I run because i wanted to get fit and walking just wasn't cutting it for me (I got distracted, didn't feel as challenged). I run because even though I am very slow, I can see myself improving. Finally I run because it gets me outdoors.
The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.
  • I hated running my whole life.  I started C25K 2 years ago so I could break a plateau to lose the last 5 lb. and reach my goal weight.  I lost the 5 lb. and fell in love with running.  I then gained the 5 lb. back (and 5 more).  I couldn't care less anymore about the weight, but I still love running.  I'd had problems with exhaustion and periods of depression for years and that was all over after I started running.  I feel better and I'm happier than I ever have in my life and it's all because of running.
  • To stay in shape and healthy. Not necessarily to lose weight, but to maintain and not gain. I was an athlete and very competitive all the way through college. I picked up running even though its not my fav thing to do, but it challenges me. I enjoy training for races and its a good stress outlet too. And my H has been trying to get me to run with him for years, and I finally gave in.

  • I run b/c I'd like to tone up- I'm skinny, but I have no muscle! I used to have a horse and ride a few times a week, but 2 kids and working FT.... I didn't have the time anymore.

The past 3 mo DH has had horrible anxiety issues, causing a major strain and frustration for me. So I also am running for stress relief. I felt so cleansed after running in the pouring rain last night!

  • I joined a cross country team the summer before I started High School, and never looked back.

    I keep running because:

1.it's an activity we do as a family

    2. It's the only way I can quiet my mind and stop thinking

    3. Races are a great excuse to travel

    4. It's a habit I cannot shake, LOL

  • I started running because I was looking for physical activity to help me get healthier and lose weight. I continue to run so that I can continue to get more fit (and it's helping me lose weight) but also because I now genuinely like it! I love competing against myself to go further or faster.
