NPCER: What are your makeup must haves?
I am desperate need of new makeup before I head back to work next month and I have never been makeup savvy. So what do you suggest? I have dry skin which since having baby girl is more like very dry skin (regardless of how much water I drink).
Re: NPCER: What are your makeup must haves?
I'm more of an eye makeup person. Must haves:
A good palette of neutral shades
Mascara
That's about it. A nice extra is eye shadow primer, and eyeliner.
Is black eyeliner okay for day?
Pixy- what brands do you recommend?
I'm no makeup expert. I have four things I can't do without:
Moisturizer (Philosophy When Hope Is Not Enough)
Concealer
Mascara (L'Oreal Lash Architect...amazing)
Cheek color stick (it's like lipstick consistency; stays on my face much longer and better than powder, and it makes me look alive and healthy rather than pale and exhausted)
My Lunch Blog
I suggest going to a makeup counter like Bobbi Brown and getting a makeover for help on application and to get some products. I also suggest roaming around Sephora and talking to the sales associates for help.
I change up products all the time, but this is what I currently use (I also have dry skin)
Origin Vitazing moisturizer (its slightly tinted)
eyeshadow primer- a must for me- Right now I am using Nars Smudgeproof
Givenchy foundation (sold exclusively at Sephora). I change this seasonally, I also really like BB's foundation, as well as Make Up Forever HD.
Setting powder-- I mainly use MAC's mineralize skinfinish natural. I also like Colorscience powder because it has 55 SPF
eyeshadows- I have a bazillion, but my favorite brands are Chanel, MAC, Urban Decay and theBalm
Eyeliners- Bobbi Brown gel eyeliners (I have both pencils and pots), MAC fluidline (pot), Urban Decay 24/7 pencil liners
Blush- Nars and Tarte make my favorites.
Lipgloss- I have eleventy-billion
mascara- currently using a sample of DiorShow, but I like L'oreal Voluminous pretty much the same and its much cheaper
ETA: forgot concealer- I use BB
My can't-do-withouts:
Garnier BB cream;
Pixi water blush;
Any kind of brown pencil eyeliner;
A good mascara;
Lip gloss you love that also acts as a balm. Some of my favorites are L'Oreal's Color Riche gloss in Really Rose; the new line of Lip Butters from Revlon; Lancome's JuicyTubes.
Updated September 2012.
I'd maybe check out a tinted moisturizer if your skin is dryer.
I use daily:
Foundation (MAC)
Pressed Powder (to set my foundation) (MAC)
Eye Shadow Primer (MAC)
Eye Shadow (UD Naked Palette - best investment ever)
Eye Liner (Loreal - liquid linear, or Loreal infallible wind up pencil)
Mascara (Cover girl lash blast - purple tube)
Blush (most days - NARS)
It's a light application, though it might seem like a lot. Takes 5-10 min per day.

What kind of moisturizer do you use? I have very dry skin, and I wash only once a day (at the end to remove makeup) with this:
and moisturize twice a day with this:
http://www.olay.com/Pages/ProductDetail.aspx?pid=075609000980&productline=Complete (the sensitive, gentle formula)
that seems to make the most difference with dryness than any makeups ever do.
moisturizer, foundation, powder, eye shadow primer, eye shadow, eye liner, mascara, lip gloss (or stick) - just something to finish everything off.
I'm another vote for when hope isn't enough as a moisturizer. I think a neutral pallette is great for eye shadow (Urban Decay Naked or Naked 2 and you're set), suggest dark chocolate eye liner. Masacara - I'm a Maybelline girl myself - Great Lash or Volume Express Falsie (get blackest black).
I'm not a blush person on a regular basis, mostly because I have never found a color I like. If you need color, I prefer a bit of bronzer but that's just me.
my read shelf:
Laura Mercier tightliner/activator w/ flat brush.
Something to do my brows with - I really like the revlon brow fantasy pencil/gloss thing from this video - http://makeupbytiffanyd.blogspot.com/2012/03/updated-easy-eyebrow-tutorial.html
Lash primer & mascara - right now I like Dior's primer, with the Revlon 3D mascara
Cream eyeshadow - I like MAC's bare study - neutral with a bit of shimmer
Bronzer/highlighter - I use NARS Laguna and Albatross
Blush
Some type of foundation - I am currently using the skin79 bb balm or whatever it is is - it's the stuff from Korea, I think. The Garnier stuff is supposed to be similar, and there are other brands - dr. Jart, Smashbox, etc. I'm a huge fan of it and it's super easy to apply.
Good makeup brushes
I've been too lazy to do my eye makeup lately. So my routine has been moisturizer, tinted moisturizer or foundation, blush, eyeliner, and mascara.
I'm sure black eyeliner would be fine for daytime. Black has been banned from my makeup case (even my mascara is black-brown), but that's because it doesn't look good on me.
My favorite eyeliner ever is Smashbox cream eyeliner. LOVE.
I wear eyeliner (upper only) every single day. My go to and favorite is this in Very Black. Babycopz does the same
*pats self on back*
and I always forget to get it for myself when I make a Sephora order. I should just put it in the cart now so its there when I buy something next.
For me, I require:
1) concealer, foundation & powder (the powder sets the foundation) although lately im a big fan of the powder foundation
2) eye shadow & mascara
3) blush
4) lip gloss, but not colour
I use a combination of Aloette, Benefit & Estee Lauder products
It depends on your skin tone. I usually stick with dark brown, but that's because I'm neon white.
I'm really loving the Urban Decay line of products.
lip gloss, lip liner, mascara -- every day
every day items plus foundation, neutral eye shadows, eye liner -- stepped up days
every day items + foundation, bold eye shadow colors, color mascara, blush -- nights/dates etc.
ETA: My product lines are MAC and Urban Decay. That's it.
Oh, and for moisturizer, I use a few drops of almond oil.
Updated September 2012.
Yeah, I guess it makes up for the eyeshadow potion of DEATH.
Protip for anyone with sensitive skin: Do not - I repeat, DO NOT - try a new eye makeup product right before you get on a plane.
Judge not, I have jumped on the argan oil train...also fabulous for my hair
I use argan oil as my nighttime moisturizer. LOVE
i should get a group together and make a big MAC purchase for everyone with my discount.
anyone interested?
You get a discount?! Would it be worth it even with the price of shipping?
Anything you can achieve through hard work, you could also just buy.
YESSSS
I have no clue. I always think Butt Butter, but somehow I bet I am wrong
PICK ME PICK ME!!!
i am cheap.
i make tinted moisturizer with cover girl foundation and oil of olay.
use the same foundation as my concealer
if needed, bare minerals powder
brown liner (whatever pencil was on sale when i ran out) on upper/lower lid. smudge upper lid with a q tip.
mascara (i like the lash architect too, or the cover girl one in the green tube has t swift as its spokesperson)
sometimes i will use neutral shadow on my lids but not that often.
i use aquaphor on my lips, and usually a gloss. most likely a freebie i got from clinique (see the first line about being cheap). or the philosophy glosses are good too.
i need to break out of my face washing routine and get better about it. i am super oily and starting to break out now that i finally started my pp af.

My take after using it for a month is that I can use it in place of my foundation products. I use it instead of primer/foundation/concealer/powder. I really like it and love how it looks on my skin.
HELLS YEAH!!! I love their Pro Longwear for lips.
I'm no help if you're looking for a minimalist approach because I feel comfortable in no less than the whole shebang when it comes to makeup, but I use:
Moisturizer - Korres Wild Rose
Foundation - Make Up Forever HD
Concealer - Benefit Boing
Blush - Physicians Formula (not a fan, needed to pick up something in a pinch but I'll use it until it runs out)
Eyeshadow - Urban Decay Naked Palate
Mascara - L'Oreal Voluminous
Lips - MAC Pro Longwear
I wear eyeliner only in the evening if I'm going out - that's just the Sephora brand, which works fine.

<a href="http://www.thenest.com/?utm_source=ticker&utm_medium=HTML&utm_campaign=tickers" title="Home Di'll pick all of you guys. i don't mind. i get 30% off (i think i pay for shipping, though, unless i go to the store). i can just ship it out to you guys. i really don't mind. i pay $35/year for the discount so i like to get my money's worth.
