Black Friday: 4 Years Later, Race Is Still Issue for Some Voters
Re: Black Friday: 4 Years Later, Race Is Still Issue for Some Voters
Black people voted him in, that?s why he won. It was black ignorance.?
Reading crap like this makes me sad. Really, really sad. So much for being the "enlightened party." Dumbfuucks. I mean really, how can these people be this stupid?"
my read shelf:
So you don't vote based on issues? You care more about gender and race?
I wouldn't consider them casual voters then and I would call that a strong political opinion.

Are you friends/do you work with MarynJoe?
I guess I do. I mean, they vote on pro-life or anti-gay issues based on religious stances. I know they're political topics, but they come from a place of faith for them, not politics.

Well jeez, you could have voted for Cynthia McKinney. She's black and a woman! HTH!

OMG!!! Merry!! You should have SEEN the Pomp and Circumstance that took place at her campaign headquarters the night she lost her congressional seat!!! Let me see if I can find it for you. My people were set back about 30 years after that crap.
PS, WTMF is choosing between your gender or race? Someone explain it to me because now it sounds just plain ig-nant!!
KnittY?
I didn't realize I was supposed to check in my undies before pulling the lever in the booth. Next time I know, pick the person who's parts and skin look closest to mine.
Also, Sarah Palin is a racist? At the risk of bringing back the glory days when we discussed Palin all damned day, this is one I've never heard.
I'm sorry, I just can't wrap my head around the idea of ignoring the aaaaaaaaalll the issues and giving your vote to the person who looks most like you.

LOL. Seriously, one of my coworkers, a manager, college education, intelligent, has a "shrine" to Obama in his office. I asked about Obama's politics and he didn't have a thing to say. Other black coworkers have said, "It's our turn." *shrug* I have to say that they've honest. I've had a lot of conversations with my black friends about race issues, and underlying most of them is that they feel they should "support their people", due to their history of being an oppressed group. I don't think that represents all black people, but it does represent some, and that can't be ignored when it comes to voting issues.
Also, if all Republicans were racist, then a whole lot of people I know need to get a divorce.
Oh, this thread reminds me when I got flamed for posting an article that suggested that many black voters voted for Obama because he was black. And then there was quantifying what "many" means/what I meant by "many".
Good times.
Teacher's union?
Wow. You've been here, what, a month? We've had numerous discussions on this over the last 3+ years, and there have been quite a few who've said it.

No, I was thinking more of trade unions, manufacturers, plants, coal, electricians, etc. Blue collar dems mostly.

Gotcha.
Conversation a few years ago with a black friend: He said he went to a car dealership to buy a car. He said he didn't see any "brothers" working there, so he worked with the first salesman who approached him. That salesman was white. My friend ended up buying the car from the white salesman. While Friend was sitting in a room waiting on paperwork, a black salesman came up to him and asked Friend why he bought from a white guy. Friend told the salesman "I looked for a brother working here and didn't see one, so I went with this guy." The black salesman called Friend a sell-out and walked away. My friend then told me that he always tries to find a black salesperson or employee to help him when he's buying something because he feels he should support his black brothers and sisters. He said it's just what is expected, although it's not usually spoken aloud.
You should pull this out into a separate thread.
