I know we've spoken about this before, but why do some of you really hate Coach?
Is it because it's too mainstream?
Is it because of the logos?
How do you feel about their leather bags?
Do you think the quality is poor for the price point? If so, do you find that Coach is more guilty of this than other brands?
Do you just not like the styles?
I'm just curious because I don't really get it. I know that Coach kind of became the affordable "luxury" brand, especially with the explosion of the coach signature logo bags (I remember right before the big explosion, I had my H buy stock in it, and it was the only individual stock he bought that did well, he's since sold it).
As for their leather, I happen to find it very nice. I actually think some of the leather is nicer than some other pricier brands (like Mulberry, I was just really unimpressed with their bags considering the price point).
As for the price point, I don't know. They aren't cheap, but I think for the quality of materials they are on par with other brands.
I also can't really complain about quality. I actually think Kate Spade which is a similarly priced brand has worse quality.
Anyway, I'm just curious. What are your thoughts?
Re: s/o Handbags: Coach
I don't really care for the logo ones, but I do like a lot of Coach's leather bags.
I feel like there is a lot of Coach hate because it's the "trendy" thing to do.
::shrug::
For me - too mainstream, too "young", I hate the styles, too often knocked off, and not at all "luxury" to me. I had coach when I was really young and I feel I've outgrown it.
I have a few of their leather bags and I hate them. One is really old and while it's held up well, I would never carry it now. Another was a gift and I've carried it exactly once. I think it's horribly ugly.
I also don't like that they have outlets all over the place and you can get things for really cheap. Cheapens their brand overall, IMO.
ETA: I'm not a total brand snob, either. I do have several LVs and love them to pieces, but my favorite bags are an old Kate Spade and a random bag I got at Brooklyn Industries a few years ago, which was like $40.

For me, Coach was the "it" bag in college. Everyone had one, including me. So now it feels too young to me.
That said, I don't hate them or look down on them, I just haven't bought one in a long time...
I think the leather ones are nice. I really don't like the logo ones anymore. Screams HS/college kid to me.
I haven't loved any of their leather styles lately, but they're not bad either...
I know there's A LOT of Coach hate on this board but IRL I definitely do not see this being the case. I've heard a couple of people mention that this might be a regional thing.(?) The brand is extremely popular where I live. I have several coach bags myself. I only have 1 out of about 8 that is a logo bag. The rest are leather or suede and the quality is fantastic as far as I'm concerned. All of my bags are in perfect shape and I just swap them out because I get tired of them. I've purchased a few other brands and found the quality to be about the same or less in some cases. I would even say that 12 of mine have come from the outlets rather than the regular store and even those hold up perfectly well.
Not sure where the distaste stems from other than the logo stuff, people not really caring to carry a bag that screams it's brand name. I'm not a logo person either unless it's very discreet but I don't mind the coach logo bags that much.
Agree 100% with Go_Dawgs. I work in a government office, primarily with public assistance recipients, and it seems like every woman who comes in carries a Coach signature bag.
I do have some leather bags purchased from the outlets that have held up well, and I have gotten good use out of them for the $100-125 that I spent. But to me, Coach will always represent over-branding and conspicuous consumption of people who can afford it the least.
@MrNibbles
I see this, too but most of the time assume theirs is fake.
I think Coach is a pseudo-luxury brand. They have BEAUTIFUL leather bags, but they can be pricey. I don't like the monogrammed ones, so I would prob only get the leather ones.
I have a few friends who are obsessed with Coach and I tend to not gravitate toward their style (Kate Gosselin hair-do, perfectly manicured french tips, fake bake tans...). I hate to say that probably turns me off to the brand. I know that sounds terrible. Oh, and I am not saying that their style is bad. It's just not my cup of tea and they'd probably say the same thing about my style.
I do have a monogrammed bag that I bought myself a few years ago. It's an okay bag, but I feel like I am 15 when I carry it, so I haven't in awhile. I should sell it.
Go Phils!!
I get annoyed that they still live off of their made in the USA reputation.
I think their items are insanely overpriced for the quality and manufacture.
They happily sold my husband a $280 wallet that so obviously missed its real destination - the bound for TJMaxx pile, because the PLASTIC logo was completely crooked. I got hugely flamed for being a biitch for making him return it, lol.
It's just FAUX. A gimmick with no meat.
Yeah that's right my name's Yauch!
I don't hate it. It is mainstream in my area. I have been able to find really nice bags as gifts for my friends who love Coach at their outlets, specially the leather and suedes.
I categorically don't hate brands and I think it's naive to do so, like I don't hate juicy in general, yes the time for matching sweats has passed but they make more than the terry sweats, same with LV they make a lot more stuff than the canvas mono, ...
I first starting buying Coach around '06 and I feel in love with the leathers they were using, mainly with the Legacy line. It was thick and buttery. The leathers in collections they introduced afterwards were not as good in my opinion. Though I like the styles of the bags I did not like the leather. It was thinner and a lot of it was patent and I'm just not a fan. I started looking elsewhere after that and never looked back. I'm not saying I wouldn't, I just haven't since my taste in bags have become more $$ since then.
As a brand, I still love Coach. They stand behind their products more than brands that cost 3 times as much and I will always respect them for that.
And FYI, they are bringing back the Legacy line soon. It's not public on the website or in stores yet.

I think the majority of the bags I see in these circumstances, whether they are LV, Coach, Chanel, ect are fake. I see them all the time at the hospital where I work. Personally, I like Coach but have not bought from them in awhile because I am saving for another LV bag. I prefer MBMJ or Michael Kors now for plain leather bags.
I have no problem with Coach. I've never had any issues with their bags, unlike more expensive bags that I've bought that I immediately had quality issues with.
I also don't get the whole deal with people not liking them because there are a ton of fakes out there. Personally I feel like there are way more fake LV and Gucci bags out there. When I see a woman carrying an LV or Gucci logo bag I immediately assume it is a fake.
all of the above but I do have a very old bag that looks like the legacy duffle someone linked to above and it's held up great. It's plain and the leather is quite nice.
Really for me, it's just that it's everywhere and I really don't like being another clone. It's the only high end brand that is sold in the mall where I grew up so everyone there has Coach. That may sound snobby (and I don't mean it to) but you walk through the mall and it looks like Coach threw up. I also remember it being super popular in high school/college so it is a bit of a younger brand for me.
They are making moves on the European market and have recently opened up 3/4 stores here in London so I'll be interested to see what happens. The thing is they opened 3 regular stores and 1 outlet so right away aimed for that cheaper market.
I also don't like LV bags b/c they are everywhere and that is a whole other price point! I personally tend to buy bags that aren't popular or that scream a certain brand.
Saying all that, I really do like the new willis bag. Remove the hanging brand tag and tassel and it would be even better. I have a Tod's bag that came with a hanging logo tag on the outside and it came right off too.
The thought of carrying a fake Coach bag is like the saddest fcuckin' thing I've ever heard, for real.
Yeah that's right my name's Yauch!
My first purse purchase was Coach in the 80's and I still have that purse and it's been brought back by coach and bloggers are featuring them now. I loved it so much and it seemed like I was the only one who had coach. They made them in the us and their catalogues were awesome because they showed how everything was made.
I still like coach but only the leather bags without the c's.
And LOL in ppl thinking LV and Chanel bags are presumptively fake. I wear mine everywhere, including to Walmart, so mine must be a big faker huh?
Blog: Call Me Imelda
I didn't get the coach hate until recently. My last two crossbody bags have sucked.
The first one was cloth and within thirty days it was fraying with normal wear. I take it back, they are apologetic and I get the same purse but in leather. I have a few of their leather purses from years ago and they seem to hold up well so I figured all would go well.
The zipper slider is broken and the way it is designed I couldn't even use a piece of ribbon to slide it because the opening is too big, which is how I lost the metal and leather piece in the first place that is attached to the slider. I went and checked my other purses and none of them have that wide of a gap.

I prefer nonlogo bags - from time to time I will buy a non sig. bag from them.
I actually think that KS bags are good quality and I think Kors are worst quality for price.
LOL, and I aree.
I think they have nice leather bags but are just over saturated. When I spend a lot on a handbag, I like to feel good about it and excited when I see it and pick it up and walk out the door. I wouldn't feel this way about a Coach bag. They are just not so special to me.
I also think they are overpriced. My friend was just showing off her new 800 dollar Coach bag that she paid full price for and I couldn't help but think what I could have bought for that. It's a beautiful bag for sure but wow, $800 dollars for Coach...
I agree with KS bags being good quality. I have bought 2 from there recently during their big sales and they have held up nicely for the price. The leather on them seems much nicer than Mulberry.
LOL!!!! Although I don't have a Chanel bag, but I do carry my good bags every where, too. What I meant by saying I assume it's fake, is in the case of you see certain poeple (and I may be guilty of sterotyping) by the way they are dressed or carry themselves you know that bag has to be fake.
